“Music can change the world because it can change people.” -Bono

Last night reminded us why that’s true.

Our stage held locals, musicians from out of town, familiar voices, new faces, all kinds of instruments, singers, and genres, all finding their place in the same room.

That’s the thing about music: it makes strangers feel less like strangers.

After seeing the response when we open the stage this way and recognizing the need for more spaces built around community, the last open mic of every month will now be an Open Jam.

Bring your song. Bring your instrument. Bring your voice. Or just come be part of the room.

This is what community sounds like.

And a special thank you to Jesse & Ty for inviting their friends last night and helping make it such a special evening. And for playing last night. You guys really are amazing. 🩵🎸

And thank you to the musicians that came & played that are part of our 105 family & our community: Greg Hillman, Jamal Hardge, Melvin Scudder, Kim Ivey, Nick Savage, Quinn Heard, Dave Ross, & Eddie King. 🩵🔥🎤🎶

And thank you so much to the musicians that traveled & shared their amazing talent with us: Ethan Hamlin & Aunrie Bakon. ❤️🙌👏

And thank you to everyone in our community that came out & joined us & made it a perfect evening. 🩵

See you there!

Magnolia Express comes to David’s 105 in Downtown Monroe on Saturday, May 30.

The Atlanta-based band brings an energetic mix of bluegrass, Americana, and improvisational roots rock, often described as Modern Jamgrass.

Their sound moves between tight vocal harmonies, driving acoustic rhythms, fiddle, banjo, stand-up bass, and roots-rock jams with a little Grateful Dead spirit in the mix.

First listen? Put on “Last Cowboy on the Fisher Trail,” then keep going with their 2024 album, Cowboys, Saints & Pearls.

🚪Doors 7 PM | 🎶Show 8 PM.

Bluegrass bones, roots-rock energy, and a Saturday night built for a listening room.

Sometimes there are artists you have one conversation with about a show. Sometimes there are artists you keep bothering until they finally say yes. Let’s just say I’m very happy Colin Cutler is coming to David’s 105.

Colin is a Greensboro, North Carolina-based singer-songwriter, folk musician, poet, and storyteller whose songs sit right in that folk/Americana and Southern storytelling lane. He writes sharp, detailed songs with a literary streak, carried by banjo, guitar, and a whole lot of stories about faith, place, trouble, humor, and whatever comes next.

Opening the night is local-based indie/folk singer-songwriter Shaw Coggin, whose songs pull from folk, indie, and classic singer-songwriter traditions. His debut album Front Page News is out now, and this will be a great chance to hear those songs up close in a quiet room.

This will be the kind of night for people who like folk songs with real stories behind them: Americana, Southern songwriting, literary lyrics, banjo, guitar, harmonica, and performers who can hold a quiet room with nothing but a song and a story.

🎸🤘 Ridiculous talent incoming.

Jesse Bennett at open mic proving you don’t always need the mic with Ty Bilsland holding it down on bass.

Tomorrow’s open mic is a special one. While I can’t tell you the full lineup because I genuinely don’t know it, I can tell you Jesse and Ty will be here.

Monroe has some serious young talent right now. Come catch them while we still can.

Open mic tomorrow 5/28. Doors 6:30 | Music 7:30.
