Club Ritual is excited to announce its third release from Asher Gray. A true legend in the Milwaukee dance music community, Asher has been serving time behind the decks and as a party organizer since the early 2000’s. He is a staple and visionary in this underground scene, providing a space to platform varying approaches to electronic music over his tenure. Asher’s debut CR release emphasizes this dynamic relation. For those who grew up in the 1990’s these tracks feel like what you envisioned dance music to be.
Streamline paves the way on this two-track EP. It captures a space somewhere between Detroit techno’s early-90s speculation of the future and Y2K rave. Rhythmically the track centers around a sporadic, swung bass which transitions into something melodic, almost progressive from the breakdown onward. Atmospheric pads swim in and out evoking memories of early 2000’s technology. Triggered chords take us deeper, accidenting and building momentum before drops. Swish is a gem of a b-side, a track that could hit at different parts of the night as well as during daytime headphone escapism. Asher’s crafted break, offset by lush pads and iconic delayed vocals, are so welcoming. The default dance organ keeps the tracking moving, punctuating dancefloor experience physically and mentally. Asher captures a moment in time, encouraging perspectives of the present and offering opportunity for what’s next.
