The mistakes probably stalling your progress:

1) your frame in the prep

A lot of follows newer to spins tend to do a few things that create problems before the actual spinning even starts. They often start with a super straight leg, try bending the knee! They also may push off their lead’s hand which creates too much momentum and instability - let your lead spin you! Follows also tend to collapse their shoulder/elbow inward toward their face which counteracts what the lead is trying to do which is essentially drawing a halo over your head. You want to keep a strong but open frame that doesn’t counteract your lead’s movement. It’s a team effort (:

2) staying high up on the toes

This does not just apply to single footed spins. A lot of newer follows go up into a relevé when spinning where their heels are super high off the floor. It is much more difficult to balance in this position, so try to keep your heels no more than a centimeter off the floor. It may not sound like a lot, but it will change the game!

3) weak ankles

Dancing is hard! Spins are not easy right away. They take practice and training and one of the best things you can do to improve your spins is to work on ankle stability and strength. Even just balancing on one foot with the weight shifted forward into the ball of the foot and heel hovering off the ground (not super high) is a great drill to help with that!

Which of these is most helpful for you?
