Lightclub Memphis The Lightclub is a private party at the South Main condo of Scotty Bollinger. Because this a party at my residence we keep the events private.

We believe that everyone needs a safe and positive place to connect and have com

munity. Certain people are born to dance, and dancing can be healing and therapeutic. Everyone should feel welcome and shown respect at all times. A drug-free environment should be maintained at all times during these events. No one at the Lightclub judges anyone on what they put in their body, we only ask that it not be brought inside the doors and that no one be visually impaired by any substances, including alcohol. Our mission is to help people experience joy, hope, and acceptance, no matter what they're going through and to provide a place for those coming out of addiction to feel safe and have a good time. We aim to be a high-energy social context that pursues a community of meaningful relationships that resemble a family and to create an environment where adults of all ages can feel welcome regardless of who they are or where they are in their journey.

Today we lost someone who played a much bigger role in Lightclub than most people realize.

Robert “Prince Mongo” Hodges passed away yesterday at the age of 89 after an accident at his home. Memphis knew him as one of its most colorful and unforgettable personalities, but those of us who knew him personally also experienced his generosity and kindness. 

Prince Mongo has been my landlord since 2013, and when Lightclub was just a dream, he opened his doors and allowed us to gather in this space. Without his willingness to say “yes,” Lightclub simply would not exist in the form it does today.

This Saturday’s Lightclub will be dedicated to honoring his memory. We’ll dance, celebrate life, and be grateful for the part he played in making this community possible.

Many of you have been asking what this means for Lightclub’s future. The honest answer is: we don’t know yet. We’ll be taking the coming days and weeks to understand what comes next. As we know more, we’ll share more.

For now, we’re simply thankful.

Thank you, Prince Mongo, for believing in us, welcoming us, and giving Lightclub a place to call home.

Thank you to everyone that came out for our first sober event on 2/28. I honestly didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised that we had somewhere around 150 folks show up!

We are going to try and start having monthly events for the forceable future (next date TBA).

We are also working on a new website and I’d love to get some testimonials from those that have been to our events. Whether you came to our last event for the first time or you’ve been coming for 10+ years, would love to have you answer 2 questions in the comments below:

1. What did Lightclub feel like to you?
2. How was this different from a typical night out?
