Prior to 1993, best friends and club promoters Mr.

Dan (aka Gina Lotriman) and DJ Paul V. had launched a few club nights that never really caught fire. Then, they opened the doors of Dragstrip 66 at Rudolpho’s in Silver Lake, and it was lightning in a bottle! For 20 years, their club was a colorful, raucous, packed bacchanal where all who entered were part of the performance. Once a month, a Mexican restaurant on a nondescript corner in Silver Lak

e was transformed into a beloved destination for music, dance, fashion, and performance art. Creative and campy monthly themes like “Florence Of Arabia,” “Jocks ‘N Frocks,” “Attack Of The Living Dead Idols” and “Vegas In Space” inspired an explosion of spectacular and imaginative cross-dress – and new personas. The LA Times described it like this:

"Dragstrip 66 carved out a niche for those who liked their nightlife tempo somewhere between a John Waters film, a Bob Mackie fashion show, and drunken punk dance party."

DRAGSTRIP 66 was the safe, ALL WELCOMED party space where people were encouraged to let their hair down - or tease it up. To ‘Dress A Mess, Get In For Less!' Fierce drag queens, queer rockers, muscle boys and celebs all turned out to rock the dance floor, and the Midnight stage shows featured performance icons like Jackie Beat, Mink Stole, Momma, Sharon Needles, Kay Sedia, Coco Peru, Sabrah Summers, Joey Arias, Varla Jean Merman and countless others. Also note: LIVE SINGING only, no lip-synching! Despite having to leave Rudolpho’s in 2004, Dragstrip 66 remained a must-attend event for an unprecedented 20 years, from 1993-2013! And now, we are BACK in 2023 for special events at Los Globos! So let's continue being an iconic marker of the LGBTQ community in Los Angeles, starring YOU!
