Her art is known have very vibrant colors, inspired by strong ties to her culture. Being a 1st generation Indian woman, she was not encouraged to paint, as it was not a lucrative field of work. Unwilling to attend college at all, she settled for studying fashion at Cal Poly Pomona. She eventually went on to start her own line called “Waisted Canvas” where she painted on denim shorts. She finally c
ame to a realization that her true passion was painting, after blowing through her entire savings for her fashion line. She discovered this during a dreary, 8 month unemployment spell. With nothing to do but apply to several jobs a day, she took it upon herself to learn how to use oil paints. Recently, her art style has taken a dramatic shift from cultural to social issues that are relevant in the world today. She currently resides in Hollywood, after leaving her home on December 31st, 2015. She began acting out of a need for money soon after moving to Hollywood, which was ironically her mother’s biggest dream for her as a child. Since then, she has done several major commercials which have aired on TV. Mitali does several art shows a month domestically, and will be doing large shows overseas in Canada, Europe, and Asia in 2018.
