On Wednesday July 12th, 1989 G. Gordon Liddy and Timothy Leary teamed up in a speaking engagement at Bogart's (Long Beach). This really was Dave's thing (David Swinson), even though I did a lot of repeat bookings of various notable speakers. Here's a L.A. Times newspaper clipping on the show that my mom kept.

These guys sound amazing. Has nothing to do with Bogarts, but many of the people in the band have played there (i.e., Dave Alvin, Victor Krummenacher).

Really great quality live recording of Nirvana at Bogart's (Long Beach), Feb. 16th, 1990. Unfortunately, it's only 3 tracks. From the quality of the recording, sounds like it could have been a board tape (i.e.: a tape recording made from the sound mixing board). From the Internet Archive.

On Thursday, September 13th, 1990 Walter Sala-Humara played Bogart's (Long Beach). Some of you might remember that he was in The SILOS (indie band), who produced the amazing Cuba.

"Walter Salas-Humara is the chief songwriter for and a founding member of The Silos, a rock band formed in 1985 in New York City with Bob Rupe. The Silos were voted the Best New American Band in the Rolling Stone Critics Poll of 1987, and have released more than a dozen albums to date. As indicated by its name, which suggests both agrarian populism and impending apocalypse, the band shows influences of post-punk East Village experimentalism as well as the nascent country-rock revivalism that would return at decade's end. As described by Stephen Holden in the New York Times, "The band's austere style inflects the astringent twang of the Velvet Underground with the drone of R.E.M. and adds countryish echoes that recall Gram Parsons.""

Walter Salas-Humara (with Bob Rupe) was the middle act on a three act bill, opening for Andy Prieboy (Eye Protection/Wall of Voodoo). Starting the show was Cindy Lee Berryhill.

On November 15th, 1990 Steve Forbert played Bogart's (Long Beach). He's a very nice guy, and still performing today.

"Samuel Stephen Forbert is an American pop/folk singer-songwriter. His 1979 song "Romeo's Tune" reached No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 13 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It also spent two weeks at No. 8 in Canada."

Opening the show was Chris Gaffney.
