Lima Elks #54 / WOAL Championship Swim Meet was held July 10th and 11th at the Kenton pool. Approximately 500 swimmers representing 8 swim teams and 4 counties participated. Lima Lodge 54 donates medals and ribbons to the swimmers each year. This year Elks members from Lima 54 and Kenton 157 presented medals to the top 6 place winners. Swimmers who placed 7th through 16th received ribbons. This event was started by Lima Lodge 54 fifty years ago. It grew so large that we partnered with the Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) . This swim meet is the capstone event of the summer swimming season and is now known as the Elks Invitational Swim Meet and WOAL Championships.

We held our Flag Day ceremony June 11th at Lima Lodge 54, where we learned the history of each flag our country has adopted over the years. All Elks lodges are required to do this each year since 1911.
The Elks successfully petitioned President Woodrow Wilson to proclaim June 14 as national Flag Day in 1916.
It was not until 1949, however, that Flag Day became an official act of Congress when President Harry Truman signed it into law.
Flag Day is officially June 14, so don’t forget to wear your red, white, and blue that day, especially this year, as we celebrate 250 years as the greatest nation in the world!

It’s always a great feeling when B.P.O. Elks Lima Lodge 54 is able to donate $10,000 to the Children’s Developmental Center of Lima (located in Lima Memorial Hospital). This is made possible through grants given by the Ohio Elks Cerebral Palsy fund to local organizations who cater to children with disabilities including cerebral palsy among other afflictions. The Elks have been donating to this cause for decades. Cerebral palsy is the Ohio Elks major project. Pictured here is John Huffman, a board of directors member of the developmental center and a Lima Elks Lodge trustee; Elisha Reineke , the developmental center administrator; Jeanette Evans, Lima Elks Lodge secretary; Jim Foust, Lima Elks Lodge exalted ruler; and John Evans, Lima Elks Lodge leading knight.
