Sing now, O Muses, of the games upon lofty Mt. Hollis, where the deathless gods assembled above the drifting clouds.
There was no peace upon that mountain, for sixteen immortals had gathered there, each bearing memories of victories won and defeats endured. With them came old friendships forged in ages past, rivalries that had outlived empires, and longings unspoken since the world was young.
Their voices rose together like a storm wind upon the sea, until the King of the Gods, seeing no end to their quarrel and boasting, cast forth a flashing bolt. Thunder rolled through the heavens, and silence seized the assembly.
"To all assembled: you will compete with honor and sportsmanship. None may use their divine powers to guarantee victory.
Especially you, Fortuna—no blessing your favorites with luck. And you, Eris—no preying upon insecurities or sowing strife and chaos to aid the god you've wagered upon.
LET US PLAY FOR VICTORY!"
So spoke the King, and all obeyed.
Then the Balls of Fate were cast. Swift flew the contests. Lightning flashed across the heavens, laughter echoed through the clouds, and the immortals tested one another with all the passion that only gods can summon.
Through the long hours of sacred Night they competed. Nyx spread her dark mantle across the world below, yet still the games endured. Only when she withdrew before bright Helios, driver of the sun's blazing chariot, did the final contest come to its end.
Then were the victors known to all.
