Our next wine event will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, July 15. We'll be joined by Kevin Roberts owner of Decorah-based Meadowlark Provisions and showcasing his awesome portfolio of German Riesling.

When a lot of folks think of Riesling, they think of somewhat boring and oftentimes cloyingly sweet wines that they don't like or used to like before their palates became more sophisticated. Meadowlark's Riesling portfolio is anything but that - these wines are razor-focused with great acidity and terror-driven minerality. We think they are the perfect crisp and refreshing pairing to a muggy mid-summer's day.

For $40 per person ($35 for wine club members), guests will receive a half pour of 6 different German Rieslings (1 sparkling and 5 still) spanning a variety of styles and regions (Mosel, Rheingau, Nahe, and Pfalz), along with a plate of fresh and zippy cheeses from the Cheese Shop.

We're now just ONE WEEK from the first summer concert on The Yard at Johnston Town Center. If you enjoy Yacht Rock and/or Bon Jovi (and let's be honest, who doesn't?), this is the show for you. Knock on wood, but the current forecast calls for beautiful weather with temperatures in the low 80s.

Admission is free and the show starts at 7 pm. Drink tickets (beer, wine, and seltzer) and food will be available for purchase. No outside alcohol permitted.

Overflow parking will be available at Community State Bank and Lawson Elementary.

New this year, Johnston Partnership will have an informational tent set up at the show and accepting donations. Johnston Partnership is a non-profit that fills critical needs in our community by operating the local Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and Johnston Youth Mentoring Program (JUMP). Even small donations can make a big impact for the families and kids that the partnership supports.

In addition, again this year we will be donating beer tent tips to the Dragon Scholarship Fund, which seeks to provide financial assistance to EVERY graduating Johnston High School senior who continues their education beyond high school.

We are starting a new series - Winetender weekends!

Our first one comes from Jo. If you haven't met Jo, just know she loves us so much that she was our first customer on our opening day.

Her recommended wine for the weekend is Pech Merle Zinfandel. Rich and fruit-forward with flavors of blackberry, raspberry, and ripe plum, layered with notes of black pepper, baking spice, and vanilla. Full-bodied yet balanced, with soft tannins and a smooth finish that pairs well with barbecue, burgers, grilled meats, and aged cheeses.
