Hello everyone. This is Jonathan, one of the founders and owners of Modern Alchemy. I have been working on this project since 2018. It took longer than expected, but after Nicholas joined as an owner and covid delayed renovation we finally opened on May 22nd of 2021. I can proudly say that the vision we had for Modern Alchemy Game Bar matched nearly perfectly to what we were able to build. There were some pretty intense ups and downs that first year, including a 6 week closing from yet another covid outbreak, but we could happily say that we successfully opened the business and endured that first year.
As Modern Alchemy developed, so too did our personal lives. By the end of the second year, the business had stabilized and it became clear to us that while we loved the bar and wanted to keep being a part of it, we also needed to be able to focus on our own lives as well. So we started a search for different ownership.It took nearly a year but we found another ownership group to carry on Modern Alchemy and devote the time needed to keep it going. On March 17th of this year, ownership transferred and our roles changed to advisors.
Unfortunately, the transition fell apart. The sale of a bar is a complicated process requiring us to surrender licenses and insurance among other things, and we are no longer legally able to continue operation.
The legal maneuvers to reopen would take months. We had to let our employees go, as it would have been unreasonable to ask any of them to wait an indeterminate period of time. Ultimately, we have to do what is right for our families and have decided that the effort to reopen is too much. Modern Alchemy Game Bar will not reopen under our ownership.
To all of those who have worked with us; both recently and in the past, thank you so much for taking this journey with us. We were so very blessed with an incredibly passionate and talented group of people. Honestly we did not deserve them and we know that wherever they end up, they will thrive.
To our patrons; thank you so much for loving this place as much as we do! It was amazing to see you all happy in the place that we built. Thank you all so very much!
