Friends of Ballroom Dancing, Iowa City Our mission is to provide couples, who have made a commitment to learn to dance, a guaranteed time a Guests are also welcome at $30 per couple.

For the 2024-2025 year, member dues will be $75 per couple with attendance at each dance at $30 per couple. "Where do we go to dance?"

Friends of Ballroom Dancing was formed in response to the thousands who, after taking dance lessons through Kirkwood Community College, asked the question; "Where do we go to dance?"

Goal to Save History

A goal for these dance opportunities is to save a very imp

ortant part of our history in three ways:
• To support touch dancing for fun and recreation.
• To support live music provided by local and regional bands.
• To support area facilities conducive to ballroom/social dancing. Throughout history, partner dancing has been accepted as a valued social skill that enhances human relations. Responding to and supporting bands that play danceable music is part of that experience. Both of these -- partner dancing and live music -- have an interesting history that should be preserved for future generations. If we want practices and buildings to be in our future, they must be preserved today. Let this goal become part of your life as demonstrated by your financial support and involvement.

Dear Dancers:
Summer greetings from Ballroom/Social Dance Board at the Iowa City Eagles Club. We
hope all is going well and you are gearing up for another year of dancing beginning in
October!
These dates have been planned for 2025-2026. We thank Steve Baker for again setting
up the dates and the bands for our dance evenings.

Each year finances are always a concern. Our current reserve is $4,681.62 which is
below the 2024 reserve by $912.02. Our membership dues remain at $75 and we thank
all of our previous members for their commitment and invite MORE of you to become
members as these dues are vital for our ongoing expenses. Our fee per dance remains
at $30/couple, but each year we have experienced lower attendance at each dance.
The $30/couple does not cover the cost of the live band and the rental fee for the
Eagles Club. That is when we need to dip into the membership dues fund. Also, in
order to continue to have a special Christmas time dance, expenses for the
refreshments are paid for out of the membership dues. The table decorations are
usually supplied from our stored decorations and candies on the table are often
supplied by the members who decorate.
If you have any concern, please contact any of us. If you would like to join the Board,
we would greet you with open arms!
