The grave of Lt. William F. Davitt in Calvary Cemetary was brought to our attention as having no American flag leading into Memorial Day. A native of Holyoke, Davitt was a Catholic priest and a highly decorated Army Chaplain having been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Silver Star for acts of heroism. Rev. Davitt is widely considered the last American officer killed in WWI. He was KIA an hour and 15 minutes before the armistice that ended the war took effect.

The father has a bridge named for him in Chicopee and a memorial at Arlington. His Holyoke grave is impressive but it lacks the marker that is normally associated with veteran’s stones. As a result the veterans group that decorates cemeteries probably misses his grave.

The Holyoke Knights of Columbus was pleased to place American flags around Davitt’s grave before Memorial Day to honor his sacrifice. We will also attempt to raise his case with the VA for the grave marker that he earned. This place of honor should not be overlooked.

What would a federal holiday be like without our best wishes? Happy Memorial Day from The Knight Spot Lounge.

Saturday looks pretty good so get out there and enjoy your family — at least until they’ve had dinner. A rainy Sunday means you have an excuse to watch “The Fastest Day of the Year” with us. Indy 500 in the afternoon. Coca Cola 600 at night. Super fun. There’s also probably PGA, MLB, NHL, NBA and anything else we can think of.

Of course Monday, Memorial Day, means only one thing. Free juke box! Let’s wreck the place.

A little warm outside today? No worries. Visit the Knights of Columbus Lounge and Meat Locker. We’re underground with no sunlight and the A/C is cranked. Holyoke’s coldest beer goes quite well with Holyokes’s coolest barroom.

Happy Mothers Day from Council 90. We are nothing without moms.

Guess what’s happening here this weekend? Absolutely nothing. No comedy shows. No bands. No parties in the Red Room. Just our famous bar service and plenty of parking for moms and their “dates”. And, of course, the coldest beer in town.

On Sunday moms should ask Bronto for a special Mothers Day treat. Will be worth it.

Someone lost a wedding band here on Friday 4/3. It appears to belong to a male and is probably rather expensive. Please claim it before she finds out.

Happy Easter Weekend from the Holyoke Knights of Columbus. We will follow our normal hours until Easter Sunday. In an attempt to balance good taste with popular demand we will open at 4PM on Easter. Enjoy this happy day with family and then come for a cold beer when that gets boring.
