We would love your help in celebrating the history of the 2nd Street Slammer.

For nearly 50 years, so many memories were made within those walls, and we would love to collect and preserve them.

If you have photos taken at the Slammer over the years, we invite you to share them in the comments. Whether it was a league night, a celebration, or just a regular night with friends, every photo tells part of the story.

We are especially hoping to find photos from the 70s, 80s, and 90s to help capture the early years and the memories that made this place so special.

We will be putting together an album to preserve the history and the people who made the Slammer what it was.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Butch Bienkowski, founder of the 2nd Street Slammer.

Butch opened the Slammer on June 4, 1977. Over the next nearly 50 years, he built more than a bar. He built an extended family and created a place that became a true staple of Hastings.

Throughout the years, Butch employed hundreds of people, and he never saw them as just staff. They were his people. He cared deeply about those who worked alongside him and about every customer who walked through the door.

Butch had an incredible vision. He truly thought of everything. No detail was ever too small, whether it was a beach party, league night, or just a Saturday. He loved entertainment. He loved bringing people together and creating a space where people felt connected. The atmosphere at the Slammer was never an accident. It was him.

He built genuine relationships with his customers. He remembered your name, your drink, and your story. He took the time to ask about your family and what was happening in your life. Customer service was not just important to him, it was his highest priority. He believed everyone who walked through the doors deserved to feel welcome, valued, and taken care of.

His impact cannot be measured in years or in business success, but in the people he cared for and the lives he touched. The memories created and the relationships built because of him will remain long after today.

We are deeply grateful for the years of support, laughter, and loyalty. More information will be shared when it is available.
