Estil Owens Obituary:

Husband to Betty Owens; Father to Mike (Carrie) Owens, Steve Owens, Vicki (Tom) Golinar; Grandfather to David, Samuel (Mary), Erik, Leah, Ryan, and Matthew; Great Grandfather to Henry, Ellie and Charlie.

Estil was born and raised in Rockcastle County, KY. He graduated from Brodhead High School in 1959 and attended Eastern Kentucky University, studing Civil Engineering. Estil attended First Baptist Church of Greenhills until he was unable to do so.

In 1963, Estil enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. He obtained the rank of Sergeant before his Honorable Discharge in 1969.

Estil owned and operated Glendale Marathon until it closed and started Estil's Towing Service—offering towing, and light repairs until 2008 when he retired. He was a car enthusiast, and collected model cars and trucks.

He loved spending time with friends over coffee and doughnuts, going to family gatherings, cooking on his grill, and engaging in long and detailed stories. Estil found humor in many things and laughed easily and often.

He loved to drive, and would stop at interesting attractions along the way. Estil, Betty, and family enjoyed many trips to the beach, but Estil rarely got in the water, instead just enjoying the sun, sounds, and sea breeze. He enjoyed eating out and could eat shrimp (or breakfast) for every meal.

Estil loved all animals (except birds) with a special love for dogs. His black poodle, Charlie, may well have been his favorite child.

His greatest joy came from being a square dance caller for the Village Squares which he helped found in 1989, and called for 30 years. Estil's fondest memories were attending Square Dance Conventions, calling and dancing with his friends. Estil and Betty were the Southwestern Ohio Federation Honor Couple in 1995. Estil was honored as a Kentucky Colonel in 2016 for his outstanding community service.

Estil will be remembered for his hard-work ethic, being a loyal and loving husband, father, and friend, his generosity, and his outstanding character. He was a kind and gentle man.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024
10am-12pm at Paul R. Young Funeral Home- Mt. Healthy
(7345 Hamilton Ave Cincinnati, Ohio 45231).

The funeral service will immediately follow.

A most Remarkable Man,
A Teacher, A Mentor, part of God’s plan.
Borrowed from Heaven to lead and to guide,
Now has returned, to the Lord’s side.

A gifted and caring, gentle soul,
Fulfilled his true calling, achieved all his goals.
He sang with his heart, it was easy to see,
That the Lord God above was as proud as could be.

Today through the grief, the sadness and tears,
It’s easy to question why Estil’s not here,
For what is the purpose to take him away,
When so many saddened by his loss today.

Now God in His mercy took a good look,
At Heaven’s green pastures, meadows and brooks,
And he saw all this beauty but something was wrong,
Sweet music was missing, there were no songs.

With so many dancers at Heaven’s Gate,
And so many places Heaven’s dancers must wait,
The Good Lord needed a Remarkable Man,
And that’s how our Estil, fulfilled God’s plan.

So quietly listen late at night,
When evening doves coo to gentle star light,
For beyond the night sky the sounds from above,
Is a Square Dance in Heaven called by Estil with love.

In Loving Memory of Nick Lucas.

Go rest high on that mountain,
where winter winds blow wild,
beyond the fields and the meadows,
blessed by Nature’s smile.

Go rest easy as sunshine,
kissing a sweet spring day,
lightly as the language of laughter,
merrily on your way.

For above the stars, you will shine,
a mighty light so bright,
casting a glow, over all you know,
God’s loving Angels in flight.

For those you leave,
shall morn and grieve,
as we all do too,
Go rest high on that mountain now,
and peace will be with you.

I knew the stakes were high right from the start
When she dealt the cards I dealt my heart
Now I just found a game that I can't play
And this is where the cowboy rides away.

And my heart is sinking like the setting sun
Setting on the things I wish I'd done
It's time to say goodbye to yesterday
This is where the cowboy rides away.

We've been in and out of love and in between
And now we play the final showdown scene
And as the credits roll a sad song starts to play
This is where the cowboy rides away.

And my heart is sinking like a setting sun
Setting on the things I wish I'd done
It's time to say goodbye to yesterday
This is where the cowboy rides away.

Oh the last goodbye's the hardest one to say
This is where the cowboy rides away.

For Betty & Estil

Won’t you save the last dance for me,
Together one more time,
Remembering all of our best memories,
When square dancing was in it’s prime.

Can I take your hand once again in mine?
As we promenade round the room,
Stepping together, joyfully in time,
Sadly, the dance is over too soon.

For twenty-nine years, we were all here,
As you called your heart away,
And the love and good cheer was perfectly clear,
From Estil and Betty Faye.

Although we tried to celebrate,
Our beginning and our end,
The time will never be too late,
To say good-by to good friends.

So, with a toast and a tear we bid you good-bye,
And for sure there’ll not be any dry eyes,
As the sun sadly sets, The Village now ends,
Happy Trails to You, Till We Meet Again.
