How does the contest work?

Contestants write a 300-400 word essay based on an annual patriotic theme. The theme for this year is “What a Veteran has taught me about America” The contest consists of four levels. Your local VFW Post (GH 2377) sponsors the first level (entry). The winning Posts’ entry is then submitted to District and State levels. First-place state winners are then advanced into the VFW National competition. Please be sure to review the Patriot’s Pen entry form and the sample essay.

The top national winners will receive at least $500. The first place national award is currently $5,000. Further directions are listed on the entry form. Information and entry forms can be obtained by logging onto the VFW website: www.vfw.org/PatriotPen/

The VFW names national winners for the 2025-2026 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen scholarship competitions, awarding over $1.6 million in total prizes to patriotic middle and high school students.

Santa made another visit on Tuesday. We extend our gratitude to Estelle Saporito Peabody and her dancers for their ongoing support of our toy drive. The variety of toys everyone generously contributed each week filled the bin to capacity. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! Thank you!

🙏 Thank You for Celebrating the Life of Rich “Oz” Osborn 🙏

On behalf of VFW Post 2377, we extend our sincere thanks to Oz’s family, the Glenside Fire Protection District, and all of the friends and colleagues who joined us last night to honor the life and legacy of Rich "Oz" Osborn.

Your presence turned the evening into a meaningful and memorable gathering — filled with laughter, great stories, and plenty of smiles. From heartfelt tributes to the legendary tales of Oz’s love for chocolate chip cookies, it was clear that his spirit lives on in every life he touched.

Thank you for showing up and sharing in the joy of remembering a great man.
