Bourbon & Beyond starts tomorrow, but this crew decided the party needed to start a little early!

First stop: Dueling Grounds Distillery for some spirit flights. 🥃
Next stop: our friends at Boundary Oak Distillery.
Final destination: Bourbon & Beyond! 🎶

We especially love that one couple had visited us before and decided to bring their friends along this time. That’s the kind of road trip detour we can get behind!

On this day, September 22, 1826, a famous duel took place near Franklin involving Sam Houston — the very history behind our name, Linkumpinch Dueling Grounds Distillery.

Houston sharpened his skills at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage before heading to the Sandford Duncan Inn, a hotspot for duelists thanks to its location on the tricky KY/TN state line where laws were loose.

At sunrise, Houston and White faced off at 15 paces. Houston’s shot struck White, who survived despite the grave wound. Houston was indicted but never arrested.

Linkumpinch saw over 40 duels, with the Sandford Duncan Inn still standing—offering tours and live duel reenactments.

Sam Houston had beef. It ended up in Simpson County. 👀

On September 22, 1826 — 200 years ago today — future Texas president Sam Houston met General William A. White for a pistol duel at the Linkumpinch Dueling Grounds near the Kentucky-Tennessee line.

The dispute reportedly grew out of a political disagreement involving the appointment of a Nashville postmaster. Because apparently in 1826, an angry Facebook comment just wasn’t an option.

Houston wounded White in the duel, then went on to become one of the most recognizable figures in American history.

And part of his story happened right here in Simpson County, Kentucky.

Just another reminder that you never know what stories are hiding along the backroads around here.

Happy 200th anniversary to one of the wilder chapters in Simpson County history.

Still smiling from Saturday! Our 10th Anniversary Bourbon Harvest Picnic was one heck of a day, and we’re so glad so many of you came out to celebrate with us.

Good food, good bourbon, beautiful tractors, great local folks, plenty of laughs… and a whole lot of memories made.
