Guess who just found Andrew Sutton's Lindy Hop Championship video from 2000?!

This is the person leading our Make Every Dance Amazing Weekender. Has he always been a badass incredible dancer? We may never know!! (Okay actually the answer is no, he hasn't. And the origin story of his dancing life is hilarious. If you come out for the weekender maybe you'll get to hear it before the weekend is out.) If you haven't bought tickets yet, please do. I want to hang out with you and create amazing dances together.

If you're still on the fence or wondering if this Andrew fella is as good as we say he is, watch this video with sound on. Kid's got moves!

🧠 Dance Tip: Replace “Right Timing” with “Reaction Timing”

Often dancers are taught when to do something — “counterbalance on 3,” “spin on 5,” “step on 1.”

That kind of static timing locks your body into patterns that only work if the song, partner, and moment match exactly. Which, unfortunately, is rare.

Instead, train your body to move based on what you feel — not when you were told. For example:

❌ “Go into counterbalance on 3”
✅ “Go into counterbalance when your partner does”
✅ “Go into counterbalance when the music calls for it”

When you train reactions instead of routines, something magical happens:
You start having more amazing dances — no matter the music, style, or partner...at least when it comes to that technique.

But don’t just do this for counterbalance...
Do it for every technique you’ve ever learned — from posture to frame, tone, tension, body vs arm lead/follow, rhythm, melody, and more.

Want a shortcut to building this concept into your muscle memory?

That’s exactly what we train at the Make Every Dance Amazing Weekender Intensive.
We don’t just teach it — we measure it.
And most dancers report 2–5x more amazing dances after just one day.
