Medusa Friends and Family,
For over 23 years, Medusa's has called Elgin our home and we are sad to announce that this current location will be closed indefinitely due to the crazy pandemic that has drastically affected all of our lives. Why are we closing? Well, It was a combination of 2 things really: Yes the owner Dave "Medusa" Shelton did pass away in August and that was the main reason, and the 2nd reason, a lil' thing called RONA. Truthfully, had there been no pandemic, there is no doubt that the club would have continued and I would have gladly kept the party going in Elgin. But sadly, these are the times we are living in and this pandemic makes it absolutely impossible to continue in Elgin as we really have no clue how long this will last or when life will resume to any sense of normalcy that we all once knew. We had our last party in March and the weird thing is.... we really didn't think it would be a forever goodbye at the Elgin location, we figured "Lets ride out this Rona craziness" and then get back to the party... little did I know that this really would be the end of Medusa's in Elgin and that in just a few months we would all lose our dear friend Dave Medusa and then officially close our doors. This year absolutely sucks but yes, it is time to close this chapter of the Medusa Legacy.
Through it all, we’ve aways been that crazy club in Elgin called "Mission/Medusa's". But just like Dave had his original location on Sheffield and then the Congress theater and then parties at Shelter, Karma, etc...etc... etc.... It isn't the building that made us "Medusa's", it's the people, the party, the atmosphere, the music.
I miss Dave dearly and will never forget everything that he taught me. I am forever grateful to everyone that I met at the club and for all of the friends I've made and for the amazing staff that I consider now and forever to be my family. This isn't the end by any means.... yes, it is the end of Medusa's in Elgin, but the show will most definitely go on. Lets ride out the rest of the Rona wave and we'll see what 2021 brings.
Xo,
Miguel Ortuno & The Medusa Team
