60 South Nightclub

60 South Nightclub PERMANENTLY CLOSED. For a moment in time 60 South was…perfect We had insanely talented DJ's that were resident DJ's and a host of guest DJ's over the years.

For a moment in time this club was the perfect club in the Denver nightclub scene

Starting out as a little gay bar known as Zu Denver the club eventually grew into a unique club that ran 7 different formats, 7 nights a week. In it's heyday 60 South was home to LIPGLOSS, RHYTHM HOUZ, the ZU KINGZ, Ooh-La-La Burleque and CWIM (Colorado Women in Music). We had some amazing talent from all over the c

My old club 60 South made the list!

This is a direct result of all of the AMAZING promoters, Dj's and bands that we were lucky enough to have worked with that made it amazing and memorable. This article made my day.....

Thanks for the memories Denver ♥️

I was born in Denver in 1980. These days, I wear my Colorado nativeness like some entitled badge of honor -- and I've noticed others do, too. I was at a public gathering last week and when a native took the mic to speak, they made sure to mention that...

So great to see that HQ is back! I am happy to see the storied address of 60 South Broadway will remain a part of the Denver nightlife/music scene.

If the walls of 60 South Broadway could talk “oh the tales they could tell”. Music should always be pouring out of these doors.

What clubs have been at the 60 South Broadway location?
• Mike’s Tavern (local bar & drag)
• Zu Denver (local bar, dance club drag, drag kings, Burlesque)
• 60 South, (Rhythm Houz, Transmission, Lipgloss, Burlesque, CWIM, Live Music)
• Cherry Pit (Live Music, goth industrial club, Burlesque)
• Three Kings - Live music & Shows
• HQ special events & live music

In case any of you are wondering what Bedz is up to these days. (He also sells real estate, so if you are in the market look him up)

I ended up owning a club but my nightclub career start at The Elle. I was that story that people tell about “starting from the ground and working my way up”. I started out working once a week doing coat check, then started fill-in barracking, fill-in bartender. Then I started doing graphic design and marketing. Eventually I ended up being the general manager and learned everything that Inpossibly could from Joanie. I never intended to leave The Elle but in the end it led to me opening my own club Zu Denver with my business partner Tonya. Zu did so well that we started expanding to different format 6 out of 7 nights a week. Each promoter was running their own show and marketing so we switched to the name to the generic 60 South and kicked ass for years. 60 S. broadway in Denver is still going strong in the Denver Nightclub scene as it has since the 80’s. It is currently called HQ and I can’t wait to visit when I am in Denver.

My nightclub experience all started in coat check at 716 Colfax at The Elle.

The owners of the Elle never intended for it to be a mostly le***an bar, but somehow it ended up that way. Over the past three and a half years, the club, located at the corner of Speer and Colfax, in the heart of Denver, has grown into something of...

End of an era.

3 Kings took over the club space of 60 South Nightclub (Zu Denver) and those guys turned it into a legendary full time music venue.

During our tenure as Zu Denver/60 South Nightclub we occasionally featured live music - I had always felt it was the perfect space in the perfect location for a live music venue. 3 Kings made it happen. Sadly 15years as 3 Kings and thousands of bands and performers on the stage has come to an end.

I wish I had a million dollars I would stop this from happening.

So many memories in this space in its number of lives. I know it started out as a piano sales room. The clubs that I knew existed there were:

Mike’s Tavern

Zu Denver

60 South Nightclub : Home of many great promoters like the Denver 3 from Lipgloss, Rhythm Houz w/ DJ Bedz, Beth Van Elswyk’s Kingz that brought MTV to the club (what a night that was!) Mary Beth Abella brought Colorado Women in Music (CWIM), Maris the Great was birthed (or became undead) at Zu during his gig dj’ing a punk rock night. Edward Calbart brought incredible acts from all over the country to the 60 South stage from Cece Pen*ston to Lady Bunny and his local productions were some of the best in Denver lgbt history. Ed had a knack for finding and promoting talent (Krystal Towers, Tami, DeMarcio Slaughter, Isaac, Angel)

Kitty Crimson and Michelle F***y Fitztightlee first brought Ooh-la-la Burlesque to the 60 South stage. Miggy Camacho brought some great talent, intense rap battles and Never Summer promotions to the 60 South stage. So many incredible dj’s, hosts, emcees, musicians, dancers and performers graced that stage it would be hard to name them all. DJ Bedz, Tyler Jacobson, Boyhollow, Tim Cook, DJ Gary Givant, DJ Dirty Bird, DJ Blaque Gurl (Bo), DJ BeAnne, Dylan Johnson Christian Dragos and Transmission, Cindy Riedel DJ Spindee, DJ Jody B, Mike F’n Rich, DJ Chonz, Chad Ekstrom, Chad Schoenborn.....

The Cherry Pit had a good run between 60 south and 3 Kings taking over. They became the home of Ooh-La-La and I am quite certain birthed “Panties at the Bar”. Cherry Pit hosted Ooh-La-La, live music, DJ Tower and if I am correct promoter Tina Berger ( DJ Slave1 )
started Disintegration: at the Cherry Pit. Side note, it almost burned down during the Cherry Pit days.

3 Kings Tavern - legendary South Broadway live music venue. I couldn’t even begin to list the talent that played and performed at 3 Kings, they have an awesome photo drop page that is worth checking out where past performers, employees and customers are posting memories.

If the walls at 60 South Broadway in Denver could talk, what fabulous stories it would tell that doorway has hosted a ton of epic Denver events and talent.

I truly hope that someone can put another great club in there with Broadway character. (or loan me a million dollars and I’ll do it 😉)

The South Broadway venue is closing down for good.
