End of an era.
3 Kings took over the club space of 60 South Nightclub (Zu Denver) and those guys turned it into a legendary full time music venue.
During our tenure as Zu Denver/60 South Nightclub we occasionally featured live music - I had always felt it was the perfect space in the perfect location for a live music venue. 3 Kings made it happen. Sadly 15years as 3 Kings and thousands of bands and performers on the stage has come to an end.
I wish I had a million dollars I would stop this from happening.
So many memories in this space in its number of lives. I know it started out as a piano sales room. The clubs that I knew existed there were:
Mike’s Tavern
Zu Denver
60 South Nightclub : Home of many great promoters like the Denver 3 from Lipgloss, Rhythm Houz w/ DJ Bedz, Beth Van Elswyk’s Kingz that brought MTV to the club (what a night that was!) Mary Beth Abella brought Colorado Women in Music (CWIM), Maris the Great was birthed (or became undead) at Zu during his gig dj’ing a punk rock night. Edward Calbart brought incredible acts from all over the country to the 60 South stage from Cece Pen*ston to Lady Bunny and his local productions were some of the best in Denver lgbt history. Ed had a knack for finding and promoting talent (Krystal Towers, Tami, DeMarcio Slaughter, Isaac, Angel)
Kitty Crimson and Michelle F***y Fitztightlee first brought Ooh-la-la Burlesque to the 60 South stage. Miggy Camacho brought some great talent, intense rap battles and Never Summer promotions to the 60 South stage. So many incredible dj’s, hosts, emcees, musicians, dancers and performers graced that stage it would be hard to name them all. DJ Bedz, Tyler Jacobson, Boyhollow, Tim Cook, DJ Gary Givant, DJ Dirty Bird, DJ Blaque Gurl (Bo), DJ BeAnne, Dylan Johnson Christian Dragos and Transmission, Cindy Riedel DJ Spindee, DJ Jody B, Mike F’n Rich, DJ Chonz, Chad Ekstrom, Chad Schoenborn.....
The Cherry Pit had a good run between 60 south and 3 Kings taking over. They became the home of Ooh-La-La and I am quite certain birthed “Panties at the Bar”. Cherry Pit hosted Ooh-La-La, live music, DJ Tower and if I am correct promoter Tina Berger ( DJ Slave1 )
started Disintegration: at the Cherry Pit. Side note, it almost burned down during the Cherry Pit days.
3 Kings Tavern - legendary South Broadway live music venue. I couldn’t even begin to list the talent that played and performed at 3 Kings, they have an awesome photo drop page that is worth checking out where past performers, employees and customers are posting memories.
If the walls at 60 South Broadway in Denver could talk, what fabulous stories it would tell that doorway has hosted a ton of epic Denver events and talent.
I truly hope that someone can put another great club in there with Broadway character. (or loan me a million dollars and I’ll do it 😉)
The South Broadway venue is closing down for good.
