We know you loved the story behind the Morning Ride, but today we’re getting a little geeky about the prep. Creating a cocktail that perfectly mimics a fresh-baked San Francisco pastry takes some serious behind-the-scenes magic here at Lady Jane.
🥃 The Bread: To truly capture that baked, doughy goodness—we build the flavors into the base spirit itself. We steep coriander seeds and caraway into Jameson Irish Whiskey. By letting the alcohol act as a powerful solvent, we pull out deeply savory, bready notes that mimic the maltiness of a freshly baked bun right out of the oven.
🥛 The Texture: You can't have a pastry without a lush, satisfying bite, and that’s where our house-made Whey Syrup comes in. We take milk, curdle it, and carefully strain it through cheesecloth to separate the curds. What’s left is a translucent, protein-packed liquid whey that brings a surprisingly bright, zippy flavor profile. When we shake that up with a fresh egg white, the combined proteins build a beautifully structured, meringue-like foam, giving every single sip an incredibly rich, velvety mouthfeel.
🍊 The Spice: A Morning Bun thrives on its warming aromatics. We use Luxardo Amaro Abano to naturally bring in green cardamom, Ceylon cinnamon, and bitter orange peel. But to really elevate that spice profile, we blend it with Planteray ‘Sealander’ Rum. This unique rum combines molasses spirits from Barbados and Fiji with cane juice rum from Mauritius, bringing its own lovely, complex baking spices that perfectly bridge the bitter amaro and the savory whiskey.
Add a splash of fresh lemon to balance it all out, and you’ve got a morning pastry in a coupe. 🥐🍸
