Growing up as a Chad, I always knew where Chad was in Africa. It was my favorite piece of my wood “global maps” puzzle. 😂🤷♂️
But I didn’t really know much about the actual country… until my brother came into my life. Born and raised in Chad, we instantly hit it off and over the past two years I’ve learned much about the country with the coolest name on the planet. Yeah, it makes for some running jokes as I’m “a fellow Chadian”, but us hitting it off has everything to do with who Reuben is as a man, regardless of where he’s from.
He loves the Lord, he loves people, he hungers for wisdom, and he’s legit one of the best men I know. You either like Reuben or you’re wrong, and if Reuben doesn’t like you, well… May God have mercy on your soul. 😂🤷♂️
He’s apparently been planning this surprise for some time and last night when he picked up his parents from the airport, they brought over some truly special gifts for us. A beautiful silk flag (which will be hung up post-haste), a pipe, and a chess set. All of it handmade, including the flag. Each chess piece was hand carved and the craftsmanship blows my mind, but not as much as the heart behind it. ✊🏻❤️
Reuben knows we play a lot of chess here and this gift will be much appreciated… and also protected, so don’t even think about pocketing anything or you’ll draw back a nub. I’m not sure if they chop off hands for theft in Chad (I’ll consult with Rubles on this), but this Chadian definitely has that policy in place. 😂
