Culver City English Country Dance is a community of dancers from the Los Angeles area, especially Culver City, who gather together to exercise, have fun, and build community through traditional English country dancing. We’re not a performing troupe, so anyone and everyone is welcome to join! No partner or experience necessary to come and enjoy the dancing! CCECD was co-founded by James Hutson and
Annie Laskey in 2006 to provide an opportunity for English Country Dancing on Southern California’s Westside. Lindberg Park Stone House in Culver City was available starting on the fourth Sunday of January that year, and CCECD has been going strong on second and fourth Sundays since then. If you’ve ever seen a movie or TV adaptation of a Jane Austen film, then you’ve seen English Country Dancing (ECD). Contemporary ECD in the United States is not an obscure historical relic but a thriving social activity enjoyed by large numbers of people of all ages. Our dances always feature live music, played by the area’s most accomplished musicians. The music is hauntingly beautiful and offers tremendous variety; sometimes sweet and melodic, other times absolutely driven with a pulsating beat. Dancers get swept away as they become one with the music, interacting with each other as they move and weave through the patterns they create. Figures are taught and dances are prompted by a caller, so no experience, or partner, is required. Check out our website for more information, including our address and admission costs, our upcoming and past schedule, callers and musicians, and explanations on what English country dancing is, including photos and videos both from CCECD and from some of our favorite films. http://culvercityecd.com/
