We’re rapidly approaching 1,000 followers and realized we’ve never formally introduced ourselves! 🙈 So here goes: we’re Katie & Tim, the husband/wife team behind every bottle of Anthracite Spirits. We moved to Crested Butte in 2020 and quickly knew we wanted to plant real roots and start something of our own. One of the best parts of this town is its unique, local businesses, and we wanted to help keep that spirit going (pun intended).

Early in our search for the “right” business, we were offered the chance to buy the original equipment from local Montanya Distillers. Cocktails were a long-time love of ours, so making our own spirits and liqueurs felt like a natural next step, even if we’d never actually done it before! We did our homework, talked with small producers at that years’ American Craft Spirits Conference, and took the leap.

Between years of crafting balanced, creative cocktails, Tim’s industry experience, and Katie’s background in outside sales and graphic design, we figured we had the right mix of skills attempt to launch a distillery ourselves. After a year and a half of building the space and perfecting our first recipes, we sold our first bottles at the end of 2023.

The path has been winding, but our focus hasn’t changed: small-batch spirits and liqueurs that give you the liquid tools to make something unique, nuanced, and delicious, whether you’re mixing at home or behind a bar. We only flavor with whole, real ingredients. No artificial flavors, no dyes. Just curiosity, a lot of zesting, and a lot of fun. 🍊

When we’re not making your next favorite bottle, you’ll likely find us on our local trails, on the couch with our furry family and a bingeable show, or traveling and enjoying a cocktail of our own.

Thanks for being here! We look forward to seeing you at our next market, tasting event, or out on the trail, and getting to know a little about you. ✨

Whew! It’s been a minute — thanks for staying tuned. When you’re a two-person distillery, sometimes something’s gotta give— this summer it was the ’gram.

Here’s a quick rundown of what kept us busy this summer:
☑️ 9 Louisville Farmers markets (2 to go!)
☑️ 7 Gunnison Farmers markets (3 still to come!)
☑️ 2 Crested Butte Farmers markets
☑️ 9 evenings of Alpenglow pouring 138 G&Ts, 182 Watermelon Gin Mojitos, and 213 Moroccan Mules for so many familiar faces from our tasting room.

Somewhere in there, we also hand-bottled just under 2,000 bottles — 1,926, to be exact — two at a time, by hand 🖐️ like always. We put in a whole lot of windshield time to take on sales trips across the Front Range and landed a bunch of new retail and bar partnerships we’re super stoked about.

We even hand-bottled and custom-labeled our first-ever wedding order for some special friends.

All that to say — small batch, small team, BIG summer. Thank you for sticking with us through our quiet feed era! 💫

Now that things are slowing down, we’re turning our attention to some new products we’re cooking up for early next year 👀 — and our fall/holiday market schedule is coming together too. We’re also putting together a little something extra for the holidays this year… stay tuned!

In the meantime, come find us at the last few Farmers Markets of the season:
🍂 GUNNISON 9/19, 10/3, 10/17
🍂 LOUISVILLE 9/26, 10/10

Summer in CB doesn’t start when the calendar says it’s summer. It starts when the once snow-covered trails dry out and the rainbow of wildflowers begin to show up. When the Slate River is running high and cold and when someone hands you one of these. ✨

Meet the Strawberry Basil G&T — our current obsession and the perfect refresher after a long day enjoying the great outdoors. Fresh, muddled strawberry and basil, our bright citrus-forward Mountain Dry Gin plus your favorite tonic (ours in Telluride Tonic) makes for an easy but supremely refreshing summer sipper.

Recipe in the comments 👇 — try it at home!

Getting our spirits into stores across Colorado is a labor of love — literally. Currently ranging from Longmont to Colorado Springs, Grand Junction to East Denver, Tim and I load up the truck, hit the road, and hand-deliver every bottle ourselves.
Self-distribution means more than just dropping off product. It’s building real relationships with the store owners who champion small Colorado brands. It’s pouring tastings for bartenders who’ll recommend our gin in their next cocktail. It’s chatting with customers who are curious about what makes a Crested Butte distillery different.
It’s a lot of windshield time and heavy lifting, but here’s why we do it: we believe in the people behind the bar as much as we believe in what’s inside the bottle. When you choose a bottle of Red Lady at your local shop or order a cocktail made with our Mountain Dry Gin, you’re supporting not just our small distillery, but also the retailers and bartenders who took a chance on us.
If you love what we’re making and want to see us in your go-to spot, please let us know! Drop us a DM or comment with a tag to your favorites below. We’re always looking to connect with new partners who share our passion for quality, community, and craft.
Cheers to exploration — on the road and in the glass. 🥃🗺️

One week ago, we poured our last cocktails at Anthracite Lounge.

And what a night it was. Record-breaking sales, the most cocktails we’ve ever made in a single shift, and enough energy in that room to power the whole block (big thanks to for bringing the musical vibes.) Should we just “close” every weekend? Asking for a friend.

Tim and I may have shed a few tears, but truth be told, these final days were less about goodbye and more about celebration. So many familiar faces, so many people we’ve come to genuinely love over the past two and a half years. If you joined us on Elk Ave during that final stretch, thank you. ✨

Looking back on the Lounge, we’re mostly just grateful. Grateful for this community that showed up for us endlessly. For the locals who understood what we were trying to build and made it part of their routine. For the curious visitors who wandered in with no idea what Anthracite Lounge was (“no, we don’t serve beer” 🙄) and left as converts — newly convinced that gin isn’t actually terrible, or that a well-made cocktail is worth slowing down for. In fact, we realize now we have so few candid photos in the space because we were always so present to what was happening around us (⚠️but please, if you have photos you took in Lounge, send them our way! We’d love to have those to remember the good ol’ days and nights!)

Our goal was always simple: make sure people felt better walking out than they did walking in. And we think we did that. Not every night felt significant, but the intention was always there.
We’re proud of what we built. We’re also ready for what’s next.

Running the Lounge taught us so much — about cocktails, community, business and about ourselves. It’s a privilege to share what you love with other people, and this distillery keeps giving us that opportunity in different forms.

The tasting room may be closed, but we’re not going anywhere. We’re still distilling, still experimenting, still making fun and unexpected spirits to flavor your adventures. And we can’t wait to keep sharing it with you —
Here’s to the next chapter. 🥃
