There are cities that are special. Places where the culture grew organically and did what was right to ensure generational growth. Washington D.C. is one of those places. The dance music culture of the city has been precious since as far back as I can remember. Traxx passed the baton to Nation (in its many names), the children of Buzz became club owners themselves setting standards that the rest of dance culture would strive to meet for decades.
The Owl Room is one of those spaces. Created for us, by us, to create a safe place where the culture would evolve. I didn’t get the chance to visit. But from the people involved. I know it will be a storied and respected touchstone in the ever growing history of DC’s dance music community.
If you are in the area, i would suggest popping in before they close their doors. It will be worth the trip.
