I am closing up shop on my group Ballroom lessons. PLEASE READ:
It is with mixed feelings that I announce an indefinite suspension of my Tuesday night group dance class in Chattanooga, as of Tuesday March 24. This was my last Group Ballroom Dance Class when, at one time, I had as many as 15 group classes a week (in NYC – the “city that never sleeps”). All told I have had the fun of doing this kind of thing for 27 years--- 22 in New York, and 5 years in Chattanooga. And this current Tuesday night class had just come up on its 5 year anniversary--- a pretty good run, I think.
Since current class attendance has waned as of late, it does sadden me. But, I feel it an opportune time to make a transition. I will provide some closing ‘dance lesson’ thoughts after I touch on this transition I just mentioned. And, please, sing no sad songs.
After almost 20 years of marriage, Jackie and I have truly never been happier than now. And that’s primarily due to the activity we’ve been involved with for the past 10 months.
What almost none of you know is that since last May, Jackie and I had embarked on a new endeavor, which has proven to be extremely fulfilling to us, both individually and as a couple. This other activity’s main night of participation happens to be on Tuesday, and so now we will look forward to spending more time with it.
What is it? There is so much to say about how much this endeavor has meant to us, so I’ll be both brief and a little descriptive. Though I know I won’t do it justice.
Google “Warriors And Queens”, or just ask Jackie or me if you’re more curious.
We are involved with an amazing group: a non-political, peoples’ self-development group, called “Warriors And Queens.” The man learns a deeper and increasingly unshakeable devotion to his “Queen”… and his Queen learns/delves into her emotional nature, while accepting his sincere devotion. I know that sounds crazy and almost corny in this topsy-turvy world we live in. But through study, sharing, and implementing the material, we are learning to transition into the best “selves” we can be--- both emotionally and spiritually. In 10 months with the group, Jackie and I have seen much growth and improvement. We are so much more patient and accepting of one another. So much to say. So much to appreciate. We are so excited to learn more!!
(I will add a link in the comments section, if you want to learn more)
Now, some closing thoughts about the group Ballroom class:
Of course, Dance Lessons by Lenny will continue with its private lessons and Wedding Dance segments of the business, but the Group Classes were always my favorite (as I’m sure some of you could feel!)
Well that’s it! I hope we’ve been able to provide some fun and entertainment with our Tuesday class, along with y’all learning a thing or two about partner dancing…not to mention establishing some friendships that, to me, go beyond dancing.
Like I’ve always said, “It’s never been just about the dancing.” (Sorry, Linda: It was never merely "Jus Dancin") Naturally it’s about the self-development and pride which comes from ‘getting’ a new step AND doing an existing step even better than before. But more than that it’s about the sharing and caring during the lesson and practice…the kindnesses and the camaraderies that come about among the group.
Thank you. I’m sure Jackie and I will see you on another dance floor soon.
Warmly,
The Two of Us
