Lottie and her husband Ronnie are the owners of the R & L Lounge on 23 Mills Street in Buffalo's Polonia Historic District. Visiting the R&L is like sitting around the kitchen table with relatives…that’s why people keep on coming back time after time. This neighborhood joint has served as a tavern for over 75 years with the Pikuzinski’s at the helm since 1969. Known for their famous Polish lunches

featuring homemade pierogies and golabki, they serve dinner only on Friday. Sattlers Department Store was one of the largest retailers in Western New York for over 100 years. Its flagship store on Broadway featured seven floors of goods including a supermarket, pet store and a large home furnishing department. The Broadway Fillmore Business District, in many ways, rivaled the Main Street Business District in number of stores and volume of customers. In addition to Sattler’s, this strip of Broadway also hosted the flagship Kobacker’s, Eckhardt’s (Sears) and Postmanture’s Department Stores along with over 100 specialty shops. Include the Broadway Market and you had a Western New York shopping Mecca.

Roland “Ronnie” Pikuzinski, beloved husband, father, and proud co-founder of one of Buffalo’s most cherished neighborhood taverns has passed away. Ronnie was 91 years old.

A proud US Army Veteran, Ronnie married the love of his life, Lottie Strusienski, on July 13, 1957, at Corpus Christi Church in Buffalo’s Polonia District. In 1969, the couple opened the iconic R & L Lounge at 23 Mills Street—Ronnie representing the “R” and Lottie the “L.”

While Ronnie worked a full-time job at Western Electric, it was Lottie who managed the day-to-day operations of the Lounge. Yet anyone who visited knew that Ronnie’s presence behind the bar—alongside Lottie’s spirited hospitality—made R & L a welcoming home for countless friends, neighbors, and generations of patrons. He was everyone’s favorite “Polish Uncle.”

Ronnie was also fond of hunting with friends and family, working on carpentry and being with family. He especially enjoyed taking long, Sunday afternoon car rides with Lottie.

Roland Pikuzinski (January 28, 1934 - April 24, 2025)

Visitation will take place on Monday April 28th from 2-8 PM at the DANIEL R. SMOLAREK FUNERAL HOME 2510 Union Rd., Cheektowaga (2 blocks south of William St.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10AM in Corpus Christi Church, 199 Clark Street, Buffalo.
