Today we’re celebrating Vanja Joksic and her incredible creation, The Green Thread, one of the highest rated cocktails at South Texas Mix Off 3!

Bartenders from across the Rio Grande Valley came together to showcase their creativity, technique, and individual style, all centered around Mezcal Verde Amarás.

Vanja delivered a beautifully layered cocktail combining Mezcal Verde Amarás, Tío Pepe Fino Sherry, matcha coconut milk, cream of coconut, and Aztec chocolate bitters, bringing together smoke, earthiness, tropical richness, and subtle bitterness in a truly memorable drink.

Today, we proudly recognize our founder, Mariano Gil Jr.

Mariano recently earned 3rd Place at the 2026 United States Cocktail Championship (USCC), adding another milestone to an extraordinary career that includes two U.S. National Bartending Championships, a Top 20 finish at the IBA World Cocktail Championship, three consecutive Diageo World Class U.S. Southwestern Regional Finals, and 10 consecutive years ranked among the Top 10 American Flair Bartenders by the USBG.

While the accomplishments are meaningful, Mariano’s greatest passion has always been giving back. His mission is to elevate hospitality in Brownsville, Texas, through education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for the next generation of hospitality professionals.

Mariano proudly credits his upbringing in Brownsville and Matamoros for shaping the person he is today. The humility, resilience, and hard-working culture of our border community—along with the discipline he learned through youth soccer—laid the foundation for everything he has accomplished.

No matter where competition takes him, Brownsville is always home.

Congratulations, Mariano! Thank you for continuing to inspire our community and proving that world-class talent can come from the Rio Grande Valley.

Hoy celebramos con enorme orgullo a uno de los nuestros.

Felicitamos a Héctor Rangel por conquistar el Campeonato Nacional de Flair Bartending del USCC, convirtiéndose en el Campeón Nacional de los Estados Unidos. Gracias a esta extraordinaria victoria, representará al United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) en el Campeonato Mundial de Coctelería de la IBA, que se llevará a cabo en Macao, China, enfrentando a los mejores bartenders del mundo.

Héctor ha construido una trayectoria que lo coloca entre los bartenders más condecorados y respetados a nivel internacional. Sus campeonatos y reconocimientos hablan por sí solos. Sin embargo, lo que realmente lo distingue no son sus títulos, sino su humildad, su calidad humana y su compromiso inquebrantable con la excelencia.

¡Héctor Rangel está listo para competir en el USCC, el Campeonato Nacional de Coctelería y Flair de los Estados Unidos!

La competencia se llevará a cabo en la ciudad de Nueva Orleans, durante el prestigioso Tales of the Cocktail, uno de los escenarios más importantes de la industria de la hospitalidad a nivel mundial.

Héctor es reconocido internacionalmente como uno de los grandes profesionales de la hospitalidad. A lo largo de su carrera ha obtenido múltiples reconocimientos en velocidad y mixología, además de conquistar campeonatos nacionales en México y Panamá. Ahora buscará sumar un nuevo título a una trayectoria llena de logros.
