Hello again, Corrosionites and Corrosionistas!
It's your resident word-writer and mic talker, djared here, on behalf of the Corrosion Crew, making one of our last posts.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about this, and reading people's kind words, and still riding the high of the amazing energy we had last Saturday. I can't express how fortunate we have been to have been accepted into the Boston scene. DJ Brian L. and I wanted to create a place we could play the music that we loved, and that we wanted all of you to love.
I was genuinely surprised by the support we received from the local community. I was so new to the area, having only lived here a year when we started Corrosion. But we were quickly accepted as a part of the community, and shown support by people who have become lifelong friends and compatriots.
When we started the night, I would have been happy making it one year. I didn't know if people would get what we were trying to do, the "journey" we wanted to take people on (yes, that is an extremely pretentious DJ thing to write but whatever, I'm an extremely pretentious DJ). During our ten years, our two homes Brighton Music Hall and Sonia welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like a misfit family.
I started my journey in the goth/industrial/noise/whatever scene over 20 years ago during college. Ever since I joined, "scene" has been dying. It's been dying for ever. Yet it still hasn't died. It's changed. The scene in this region is going strong with Manray, Xmortis, Elysium, vanta, Darq, Plague, Resurrection, Nokturnal, and so many more, filled with DJs, patrons, musicians, and so many people to continue enjoying music whether it's 40 years or 40 hours old.
We appreciate the support we received from the many dancers, hosts, and fellow promoters, but we couldn't have done it without the support, madness, and comradery of A Curious Production (aka DJ Pet) who had many of the great ideas that made our party feel so special.
And we couldn't have gotten started without the unsung hero of our night Lance Tobin. He was the first person to believe in this crazy idea we had, and fought for us whenever he could. While our paths have taken us in very different directions, this whole mess could not have happened without his dedication and support.
And with that I will leave you all to your snowy New England winter. Brian may want to write something here, so stay tuned. But I wanted to get these ideas out of my brain while I could still form them into coherent thoughts. Be sure to find Brian stalking around (and probably complaining) at a variety of nights in New Jersey and NYC. And I'll be around, making noise (and probably complaining) in the Boston area.
The scene is dead, long live the fu***ng scene.
