Some final thoughts on Corrosion from DJ Brian L. :

It's easy for me to sit back and be the "Silent Bob" to djared's "Jay" since he's the one who openly wears his heart on his sleeve and is more than comfortable letting everyone know what he's thinking. That was always part of our dynamic. But after starting this journey together a little over a decade ago, I suppose it's fitting that I'd share some parting words. I'm pretty sure I've finally come down from last Saturday's awesome send-off to Corrosion even though I've replayed the night over in my head. It went by way too quickly as time seemed to move at double speed, but I guess that's to be expected.

So to start this, let me just echo a few things Jared had so eloquently said in his post from last night. It's difficult to start a new goth/industrial party regardless of location but it's even more difficult to garner such quick support for something new which is what Jared and I wanted, so first and foremost, thank you, Boston for welcoming Corrosion and letting us be part of your scene. We gained the reputation of being "the night that played all new music" almost immediately and we were proud of that distinction. And to reiterate what has already been said, I wanted to express my deepest thanks to our roster of dancers, hosts and hostesses, fellow promoters, photographers, artists who have shared the stage with us, and designers who have helped shape the Corrosion "brand" and also to our two homes, Brighton Music Hall and Sonia for giving us a space where all of us can be our truest selves. And of course, thank you to A Curious Production who has been with us since Day 1 creating a unique visual experience to match the loud music we've always pushed.

I also want to send out a HUGE thank you to Lance Tobin for taking a chance on an industrial dance night with no track record. He believed in what we were doing and advocated for our night more than anyone.

However, there is one person, I want to personally thank and that's my partner-in-fine, Jared Helfer. Who knew that a chance meeting at Ceremony and bonding over our love of Cubanate would lead to this long lasting partnership? One that started when I asked him to do a guest set on my radio show, where I immediately knew that he was who I wanted to do a night with. Thank you, Jared for saying yes when I pitched the idea of doing a night over some nachos and beers before hitting up a Gary Numan show at the Paradise. I became a better a DJ working alongside you. But most of all, you became one of my closest friends and I'm forever grateful for that! So yeah...thanks, dude!

Many things have been said about Corrosion over our 10+ year existence, but two things stand out most. First, we were once told that as DJs, Jared and I were unapologetic because we played whatever the hell we wanted to play. And to be perfectly honest, we wouldn't have it any other way. The second, was that one time that another New England promoter said this exact thing: "the problem with Corrosion is that the music they play is TOO underground." They meant that as an insult, but for us that critique was worn like a badge of honor. It was exactly what we set out to do, so as far as we were concerned: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

And while this might be goodbye for Corrosion, it won't be the last you'll hear from us. Next week will mark 28 years since I started as a DJ and I have zero intentions of slowing down as I'll be continuing my radio show, WZBC- The Industrial Factory, and also streaming on Twitch weekly and hopefully soon DJ'ing around the NJ/NY and surrounding areas and even making trips back to Boston. I know that Jared will keep going, as well, as he hits the 20-year mark of his DJ journey. And who knows, maybe you'll find us in the Boston area reuniting. After all, I do enjoy DJ'ing with him!

So for one last time, I leave you with this:
WE ARE CORROSION! THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT! 🖤🙏🤘

P.S. - We recorded the final Corrosion and I'll soon be sharing it on Mixcloud and posting it here so keep your eyes and ears peeled.

Hello again, Corrosionites and Corrosionistas!

It's your resident word-writer and mic talker, djared here, on behalf of the Corrosion Crew, making one of our last posts.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this, and reading people's kind words, and still riding the high of the amazing energy we had last Saturday. I can't express how fortunate we have been to have been accepted into the Boston scene. DJ Brian L. and I wanted to create a place we could play the music that we loved, and that we wanted all of you to love.

I was genuinely surprised by the support we received from the local community. I was so new to the area, having only lived here a year when we started Corrosion. But we were quickly accepted as a part of the community, and shown support by people who have become lifelong friends and compatriots.

When we started the night, I would have been happy making it one year. I didn't know if people would get what we were trying to do, the "journey" we wanted to take people on (yes, that is an extremely pretentious DJ thing to write but whatever, I'm an extremely pretentious DJ). During our ten years, our two homes Brighton Music Hall and Sonia welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like a misfit family.

I started my journey in the goth/industrial/noise/whatever scene over 20 years ago during college. Ever since I joined, "scene" has been dying. It's been dying for ever. Yet it still hasn't died. It's changed. The scene in this region is going strong with Manray, Xmortis, Elysium, vanta, Darq, Plague, Resurrection, Nokturnal, and so many more, filled with DJs, patrons, musicians, and so many people to continue enjoying music whether it's 40 years or 40 hours old.

We appreciate the support we received from the many dancers, hosts, and fellow promoters, but we couldn't have done it without the support, madness, and comradery of A Curious Production (aka DJ Pet) who had many of the great ideas that made our party feel so special.

And we couldn't have gotten started without the unsung hero of our night Lance Tobin. He was the first person to believe in this crazy idea we had, and fought for us whenever he could. While our paths have taken us in very different directions, this whole mess could not have happened without his dedication and support.

And with that I will leave you all to your snowy New England winter. Brian may want to write something here, so stay tuned. But I wanted to get these ideas out of my brain while I could still form them into coherent thoughts. Be sure to find Brian stalking around (and probably complaining) at a variety of nights in New Jersey and NYC. And I'll be around, making noise (and probably complaining) in the Boston area.

The scene is dead, long live the fu***ng scene.

CORROSIONITES & CORROSIONISTAS

Hello again. It's your local djared here to write one of my last posts about Corrosion. Can you believe it? I really can't. It's such a weird feeling leaving this kind of thing behind after 10 and a half years of doing... whatever it is we do. Being welcomed into the Boston scene almost 12 years ago was instrumental in being a better promoter and DJ. And Corrosion has been an encapsulation of a lot of that growth.

We have always tried to give people a place to feel accepted, hear new music, and be weird. We are proud to have created the energy we have. DJ Brian L. and I have worked to make sure that Corrosion always feels like Corrosion based on the music we play, and A Curious Production's amazing lights and video.

From our time at Brighton Music Hall, showing up at 2PM, hanging lights from the ceiling, dangling from ladders, and almost breaking our bodies lifting stuff the wrong way, to our time at Sonia, being welcomed to this our new home with open arms, Corrosion has always been Corrosion, and we are proud for what we have made.

I never thought I'd have had a night where so many people were first exposed to "goth," "industrial," and whatever else we played. And what a place to have your first event, right? Where the DJs are so pretentious that they say no to so many requests and play stuff nobody knows? (I'll never forget getting a request for Boole, though. That made my decade)

Our world today is... a mess. Just the existence of dancing, music, art, and literature in our current society is political. There are people, some in our own communities, who are scared of how the world is changing. They are pushing fascism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, and general hatred of anyone who tells them their antiquated views are wrong and unwelcome. They must be rejected without question and their opinions given no quarter. If they wish to change, we should accept them, but they have to actually want to change. Not debate endlessly just to make us angry.

With Corrosion ending, I am sad that a place people have felt safe won't be around anymore. But we still have one more blow out to celebrate who we are, unquestioningly. We will continue to play music, and bring this art that speaks so clearly to us to everyone. This is enough words. We will see you Saturday night.
