Hey everyone,
Thank you for being the heartbeat of Infinite Voices Carry On. Your ongoing support means the world to me, and today, I want to share a deeply personal evolution with you all. Moving forward, I will be stepping into my advocacy and creative work under the stage name Emery Mar.
I want to be clear: this isn't a rejection of my past, but a necessary step into a persona that truly embodies my core beliefs. For those who know me as Lisandra Rivera Vargas, I want to share exactly why this new name is so deeply connected to who I am and what we stand for.
Here is the significance behind the change:
Honoring Lisandra: My birth name, Lisandra, translates to "defender of mankind" or "liberator". It carries an inherent weight of advocacy, protection, and action.
The Foundation of Emery: The name Emery means "industrious leader". Both names completely reject passivity. The industrious leadership of Emery perfectly supports the protective advocacy of Lisandra.
The Power of Mar: Mar is the Spanish and Latin word for the sea. While it represents defense and drive, I ultimately chose it because "Mar" reflects my tropical roots of Puerto Rico and my deep, profound love and astonishment with the sea. To me, it is a symbol of freedom. I don't need to physically be able to walk to be free in the ocean, whether physically, mentally, or spiritually.
Together, Emery Mar conceptually translates to "industrious leader of the sea". It physically translates the astrology into a stage name that embodies a water-based defender. When placed side by side, these names form a highly cohesive partnership. One draws power from the environment, while the other applies power to human rights and protection.
What This Means for Us
Practically speaking, I'd love for you to refer to me as Emery Mar going forward in conversations, social media tags, and introductions. However, I want to clarify that our community may still refer to me as Lisandra. The name change to Emery Mar simply embodies how I feel completely.
Some of you have also known me as Summer Moon. That name will always hold a warm place in my heart and soul for personal reasons and memories. But I feel it doesn't reflect much of my real identity, my truth, or Lisandra's identity, thoughts, or beliefs.
As a group, Infinite Voices Carry On fully embodies this change and looks forward to representing us. We view Lisandra or Emery Mar as a positive step in the right direction toward embracing who we are and how our community feels about itself and each other.
Please know that my dedication to our community hasn't changed—it has only deepened. Our philosophy of "Mental Fortitude" remains the same: disability is a terrain to be navigated with strength and support, not just a medical condition to be treated. We validate all struggles, whether physical or mental.
Thank you for riding out this journey with me, avoiding "inspiration p**n" and focusing on real struggle and resilience. Let's embrace this next chapter together.

We don't just celebrate women today—we fiercely advocate for the disabled women whose voices have been historically silenced. Here is why our fight for equity cannot wait.
​Happy International Women's Day from all of us at Infinite Voices Carry On (IVCO).
​This day is profoundly important for people all around the world, serving as a powerful reminder of the resilience, mental fortitude, and brilliance of women everywhere. But in our "brave space," we must also acknowledge a hard truth: the global fight for women's rights is entirely incomplete if it doesn't explicitly include those navigating life with both visible and invisible disabilities.
​As a proud team member of Infinite Voices Carry On, I am deeply honored to help carry on the mission of true, uncompromised inclusion. Every day, whether through our Disability Advocacy Podcast or our Mental Health Support initiatives, we witness the radical power of disabled women advocating for systemic change and equal access. Your life navigation matters. Your stories matter. We are here to ensure those voices are amplified, not spoken over.

🛑 Is the freezing weather making your body and brain hit an absolute wall today? You're not the only one.

Right now, it’s a snowy, under-30-degree day here in Massachusetts. Our very own Lisandra Summer Moon is watching the snowfall and actively reminiscing about the beautiful, warm breezes of Puerto Rico—channeling all the island vibes to get through the chill. 🌴❄️

But let’s be real for a second here at Infinite Voices Carry On (IVCO). For the disability community, winter isn't just about missing the beach. It’s a genuine, daily test of Mental Fortitude and Life Navigation.

Whether you're dealing with a visible disability (like navigating a mobility aid through unshoveled, icy sidewalks) or an invisible one (like temperature dysregulation, chronic joint pain triggered by the cold drops, or the mental health hurdles of seasonal depression), this weather takes a massive toll.

We hold a brave space for that reality. You are allowed to be frustrated by the snow, and you are allowed to dream of the sun. Our goal with the Infinite Voices Carry On Disability Advocacy Podcast is to bring these everyday environmental impacts out of the shadows and into the light.

When did common courtesy disappear from caregiving? If you rely on a care team to navigate daily life, you might know the painful disconnect of being rushed through a meal just so someone can get back to scrolling on their phone. Let's talk about the PCA crisis, the complex grief of independent living, and the loss of humanity in home care.

The Reality of Rushed Care
A thought crossed our minds at Infinite Voices Carry On today, and we want to bring it to the community.
When people step into a caregiving role, they are there to help you navigate your life. But lately, it feels like the delicate balance of courtesy is missing. Take food, for example. Food is an act of love to fuel our temples. But what happens when you ask for crackers because you simply forgot you had bread for a sandwich, and your caregiver accepts that first thought as your final decision?
They know the bread is there. But they don't bother to remind you of your options because grabbing the crackers is the easiest and quickest way to get everything done. This isn't just a disability issue. It's a human issue. For anyone, it is common courtesy to say, "Hey, do you remember you have this available?" Instead, things are rushed so the care team can return to what is "important" to them: technology or hurrying the process so they can get on with their own lives.
The Push for Humanity and Independence
We share this not to sound like complainers or children. But something feels deeply off. There is a profound disconnect between showing up to perform a job and actually keeping the humanity and "lift" present in the room.
It brings up a complex emotional reality: We strive so fiercely for independence. But sometimes, when we come across cold moments like this—especially when it comes to essential, intimate things like food—it makes us want to retreat. It makes us yearn for the "old school" days, surrounded by our family in the busy warmth of our childhood homes, where we were striving for independence but still held in deep, familiar care.
The reality is that our families are aging. They are still around, but they are aging, and they need us to extend the hope of care to others now. We have to rely on our care teams. But needing assistance to live independently shouldn't mean sacrificing the warmth of human dignity.
