Bourbon Club — March 19th
American Whiskey Classics
Most people recognize the red wax bottle.
But the story behind it is one of our favorites.
Back in 1953, Bill Samuels Sr. decided his family’s 170-year-old bourbon recipe just wasn’t good enough. So he did something bold — he burned it.
Then he and his wife Margie went to the kitchen.
Instead of distilling test batches, they started baking bread. Different grains, different loaves, until they landed on one made with soft red winter wheat. That loaf became the recipe for Maker’s Mark, and it’s why the bourbon tastes so smooth today.
Next Thursday we’ll start there — with Maker’s — and pour four other American whiskey classics alongside it.
Familiar bottles. Good stories. Great whiskey.
If you’d like a seat at the table, send us a DM or stop by the bar and we’ll get you on the list.
