Steel City Swing Steel City Swing is a swing dance club based in Birmingham, AL. Our mission is to provide fun and accessible swing dance lessons for the Birmingham community.

Drop in some time and we'll have you out on the dance floor in no time! Steel City Swing hosts dances and offers lessons in swing-era social dances. We'd love to meet you! Social dancing has always been a great way to meet new people and share in local community. I got curious and tracked three activities this week with my Apple Watch. For reference, Iโ€™m 58.

๐Ÿšถ Walking (3.7 miles): 87 bpm average heart rate

๐Ÿ’ช CrossFit (1 hour): 124 bpm average heart rate

๐Ÿ’ƒ Swing Dancing (2 hours): 104 bpm average heart rate

Swing dancing wonโ€™t replace strength training.

It wonโ€™t replace walking.

But it turns out two hours on the dance floor provides a lot more activity than many people realize.

And unlike my other workouts, I was having so much fun I forgot I was exercising.

Together! Some friends encouraged us to give swing dancing a try.

It wasn't bad at all - having a beginner class made it easy to jump in and learn.

Having a date night in the middle of the week.

We both love a good turn!

It's much harder than it looks.

We've had a great time, met so many new friends, and look forward to coming every week.

Kenny works for UABHSF and enjoys playing golf. Tracy retired from UAB, stays active with Jazzercise, and is involved with her church.

It's a toss-up! We won't be winning competitions anytime soon, but we're definitely improving.

One of our favorite things about swing dancing is seeing couples discover a hobby they can enjoy together. Kenny & Tracy joined us seven months ago and have become familiar faces on Wednesday nights. We're glad they're part of the Steel City Swing family!

Controlled chaos.

Our beginner class is learning a behind-the-back pass while our intermediate dancers are swing-walking through the room like they own the place.

Somehow nobody crashes, everybody laughs, and everyone gets better.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for Socks & Hops! We had a fantastic night of swing dancing, DanceSocks demos, Abita Gator beers, giveaways, and good company.
