THIS is why I keep saying Quill is about the stories that happen inside the stories.

Sunday, we were celebrating Janese Carstens at her book signing when someone walked through the door.

Janese looked up.

Looked again.

And then completely lost it.

Her friend had flown all the way from Virginia to surprise her, book in hand, so Janese could sign it.

And excuse me while I cry at my own establishment.

You really had to be there. The surprise. The hug. The tears. The laughter afterward. And all of us standing there realizing we had just gotten to witness one of those little life moments in you wish you could bottle up.

Because what a beautiful thing to have someone in your life who says, your moment matters enough for me to travel 1700 miles to share it with you.

That one got me.

When we dreamed up these 500 little square feet…

THIS….is what I hoped would happen here.

People showing up for one another. Celebrating the brave thing someone created. Becoming part of each other’s stories.

Janese, thank you for letting Quill hold this little piece of yours.

And to the friend who flew in from Virginia… ma’am, you understood the assignment.

creativity = community.

Turns out, tiny tattoos have a BIG following in Billings.

Our first Mini Tattoo Pop Up filled up fast, and you’ve already made one thing very clear: we need to do this again.

Yesterday brought books, quills, typewriters, meaningful symbols and some very permanent storytelling into Quill.

We learned a few things along the way, too. Every first teaches you something.

We’re taking those lessons, caring for our community and making the next experience even better.

So yes… Mini Tattoo Pop Ups are coming back to Quill.

And we’re looking for our next Featured Tattoo Artist. Each pop up will give another artist the opportunity to bring their style and creativity into Quill.

If you’re a local tattoo artist who loves people, creativity, collaboration and creating an experience guests will remember, slide into our DMs.

To everyone who came yesterday, thank you for showing us once again that Billings is ready to get a little more creative.

Choose from a collection of tiny, literary, creative and slightly mysterious designs, including books, moons, typewriters, ink, alchemy, pens and pencils… and yes, you can get the Quill from our logo. 🪶

Last week we welcomed the crew from Langlas & Associates to Quill for a little happy hour field trip, and what a fun group. 🍻🖋️

Now we want to invite your company, team, networking group, book club, committee, or collection of interesting humans to come see what Quill is all about.

We’ll give you a mini tour, share the story of how Quill came to be, put out snacks from Michelle’s Pantry, then wander over to Thirsty Street where your first b**r is on us. Because tours are educational, but b**r helps with retention. 😂

And because we like sending someone home with more than a good story, we’ll raffle off a FREE Quill membership to one person from every group we host. 🎉

Some days, Hector is watering the plants.

Or at least… trying.

This is his friend Athena.

She lives at Quill, holds a plant in her head, and somehow looks more emotionally stable than most writers on a deadline...

Honestly, we support it.

Finished a paragraph? Water the plant.

Forgot what your book is about? Water the plant.

Opened your laptop and immediately started questioning your entire life? Definitely water the plant.

At Quill, we believe creativity needs care.

The books we choose can reveal what we’re curious about, what we’re healing from, what we’re questioning, or what kind of world we’re trying to understand.

Banned books remind us that discomfort should not become silence.

This September, our Quill dinner will explore the stories people tried to remove and why they still matter.
