I remember Freddie Page anxiously awaiting Maze's Live in New Orleans album to arrive at WZZA Radio sometime in the early 80's.. F Marlo kept going on and on about it.. When the album finally came and I listened to it, I immediately fell for the Maze featuring Frankie Beverly sound.. I have listened to their songs hundreds of times for over 40 years.. I remember playing the albums at the Pablo (a house me and some of my college roommates rented in Florence) where we would act as if we were performing the songs.. I've seen them in concert in Huntsville, Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Baltimore, New York and countless times in Atlanta.. Saying Maze's music has been the soundtrack to my life may seem cliche but it's true.. I knew Joe Douglas since I was barely a teenager from him promoting parties in the Shoals and advertising on WZZA. He introduced me to Mr. Beverly one time in Huntsville at the VFW club. I wish I had some photos.. I am truly grateful for the music and the joy Frankie Beverly and Maze has bought to my life! And the music will forever live on.. We were playing Frankie Beverly at The Speakeasy Lounge last night and one of our team members came to me and said "Jay, I'm tired of listening to this.." I said "Damnit, I'm in mourning! And you're going to get this Frankie Beverly!!" And I turned them up.. (she's young..) RIP Mr. Frankie Beverly...
