Songkran is Thailand’s traditional New Year, celebrated every year from April 13th to 15th. It is one of the most important and meaningful holidays in Thai culture.
Traditionally, Songkran is a time for family, respect, and renewal. People return home to spend time with their loved ones, pay respect to elders by gently pouring water over their hands, and visit temples to make merit and pray for good fortune in the coming year.
Water plays a symbolic role in the celebration—it represents cleansing, washing away bad luck, and starting fresh. While today Songkran is famous for its fun water fights, the deeper meaning is about gratitude, unity, and new beginnings.
It’s a beautiful mix of tradition and joy, where people come together to celebrate life, family, and a fresh start.
