Governor Aris Leads ₱5.42-M Assistance Turnover in Cortes

August 4, 2026 | Cortes, Bohol

Governor Erico Aristotle "Aris" C. Aumentado led the turnover of ₱5.42 million in Provincial Government assistance to the Municipality of Cortes, reaffirming the Province's continuing commitment to support local development and strengthen barangay communities.

Facilitated through the Provincial Treasurer's Office (PTO) and the Local Government Affairs (LGA), the assistance includes ₱5 million for the rehabilitation of the Cortes Municipal Public Market and ₱420,000 in Provincial Barangay Aid, providing ₱30,000 each to the municipality's 14 barangays.

Governor Aris personally distributed the checks to the beneficiaries, joined by Mayor Rudy Dennis Uy, Vice Mayor Niño Lumanas, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, ABC President Allan Pondoc, barangay officials, and municipal employees. The activity reflects the Provincial Government's continuing partnership with local government units in advancing projects and programs that benefit communities across Bohol.

I support the President’s call to modernize the National Building Code and update the 25-year-old Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, reforms that are long overdue.

In Bohol and through out the country, these laws must protect communities, tourism areas, and natural assets through disaster-resilient construction standards and enforceable waste-management rules.

I will push for free TESDA training and certification for construction workers so they can properly apply the new safety standards in building our homes, schools, hospitals, and tourism facilities.

Congress must provide clear agency and LGU duties, realistic compliance periods, and safeguards that communities can actually implement before the next disaster strikes. (END)

Ang bag-ong nahuman nga ₱50 milyones nga Carmen Public Market nahimong usa ka dakong pasilidad sa publiko sa Sugbo ug usa ka mahinungdanong kalampusan sa mga proyekto sa imprastraktura ubos sa pagpanguna ni Congressman Duke Frasco. Gidisenyo kini aron madugangan ug masuportahan ang kasamtangang merkado publiko sa lungsod, diin kini mahimong dugang nga sentro sa panginabuhian ug usa ka negosyo sa lokal nga pangagamhanan nga makahatag og padayon nga kita alang sa Munisipyo sa Carmen. Makatabang kini sa pagpalambo sa lokal nga negosyo samtang nagpadayon gihapon ang operasyon sa karaang merkado nga nagserbisyo sa komunidad.

Dili lang kini usa ka ordinaryong bilding. Kini usa ka saad nga natuman alang sa mga kugihan nga mag-uuma, mangingisda, ug mga lokal nga magbabaligya sa Carmen. Sulod sa kapin 50 ka tuig, matinud-anong nagsilbi ang karaang Carmen Public Market sa daghang henerasyon sa mga Carmenanon. Karon, aduna na silay laing limpyo, moderno, ug nindot og disenyo nga merkado diin sila makapanginabuhi ug diin mas sayon alang sa mga pamilya ang pagpamalit sa ilang adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglan.

Ang bag-ong merkado nagpakita usab sa lokal nga identidad pinaagi sa disenyo nga nahubog gikan sa bantugang mga arko sa Titay’s ug mga pulang tisa nga inspirasyon gikan sa Liloan.

Gawas sa katahum sa arkitektura niini, ang maong proyekto usa ka puhunan alang sa dugayng kalamboan sa ekonomiya sa Carmen. Tungod kay ang public market usa ka economic enterprise sa LGU, gibanabana nga ang bidding sa mga pwesto ug open spaces pa lang makahatag na og kita nga mokabat gikan sa ₱3.5 milyones hangtod kapin ₱5 milyones, bisan wala pa apila ang koleksyon sa abang ug ang hingpit nga operasyon sa merkado. Kini mahimong malungtarong tinubdan sa kita alang sa munisipyo.

Duke Frasco alang sa tanang lumulupyo sa Carmen,” matud ni Mayor Carlo Villamor. “Samtang ang ubang LGU kinahanglan manghulam og gatosan ka milyones nga piso aron makahimo og merkado sama niini, kami dinhi sa Carmen mapasigarbohon kaayo nga nakadawat niining bag-ong pasilidad. Kini nga bag-ong public market resulta sa mga paningkamot ni Congressman Duke isip atong kongresista.”

Gipadayag usab ni Board Member Mike Villamor ang iyang pasalamat kang Congressman Duke Frasco tungod sa pagdala sa usa ka proyekto nga makahatag og kaayohan sa katawhan sa Carmen sa daghang henerasyon nga umaabot.

MANILA, Philippines- Bohol 3rd District Representative Alexie B. Tutor welcomed the appointment of Dr. Jose Brittanio Pujalte Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH), while urging the new health chief to immediately address critical issues within the agency, including restoring public trust and resolving vaccine shortages in various regions.

In her statement, Rep. Tutor expressed her support for Secretary Pujalte, but emphasized that his first priority should be the implementation of genuine and lasting reforms within the DOH.

I welcome the appointment of Dr. Jose Brittanio Pujalte Jr. as Health Secretary. I hope that he will prioritize restoring the integrity and credibility of the Department of Health," said Rep. Tutor.

Vaccine Shortages Affecting Children

Aside from agency reforms, Rep. Tutor also raised her concern over the continuing shortage of vaccine supplies affecting Rural Health Units (RHUs), particularly in provinces.

"I am deeply concerned by reports of vaccine shortages in some Rural Health Units. It is unfortunate that some infants are unable to receive their needed vaccinations because the supplies have not yet arrived. This issue must be resolved immediately and should be among the top priorities of the new Health Secretary," she added.

Strong Track Record and Experience

Despite the many challenges ahead, Rep. Tutor said that Dr. Pujalte has earned a good reputation in the medical community. He is respected by many healthcare professionals, including physical therapists, because of his extensive experience and significant contributions to the field of orthopedic medicine.

Preparation for the Commission on Appointments

Rep. Tutor also reminded the new Health Secretary to prepare for his upcoming confirmation hearing before the Commission on Appointments (CA), which is considered one of the most challenging processes faced by a DOH Secretary.

"I hope that Secretary Pujalte is prepared to face the Commission on Appointments. Historically, this has been one of the most difficult confirmation processes that a Health Secretary must undergo," she said.

Currently, Rep. Alexie B. Tutor serves as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Globalization and the World Trade Organization and is also a member of the House Committee on Visayas Development.
