I danced in clubs for a few years.
The older girls taught me everything I knew.
This year, I finally started taking āproperā dance lessons at a pole studio.
Thatās when I learned my style of dancing is considered old-school freestyle by pole instructors. I found that funny, and a little sad at the same time.
The focus is very different.
In bars, the goal is to get someone to table you, book a dance, stay a little longer. You learn how to read a room, hold attention, make someone feel wanted from six feet away under bad lighting and loudmusic.
Pole studio dancing feels more focused on technique, athleticism, and the art itself.
Not that stripping has no art. Personally, I think itās one of the rawest forms of self expression and sensuality. Thereās something beautiful about women teaching themselves how to survive, seduce, perform, improvise, and command a room with almost no formal training at all.
Stripping and Pole arts...just different worlds born around the same pole.
Here's me struggling to learn the choreography from my classes. I do better with freestyle.
