A MESSAGE FROM US…..
It is with more than a tinge of sadness that we announce we have come to the end of our
journey operating CGR Merchant & Co.
After nearly 17 years at 44 Courtenay Place, we have weathered a few storms along the
way, but we are not immune to the economic, global and local issues that have seen so
many businesses close this year.
It is time for us to focus on our other two bars and growing young family.
Firstly, we would like to thank all the talented and dedicated staff over the years, especially
the current team who have worked tirelessly through a very hard period. We are so very
grateful for each, and every one of you.
To our loyal customers – thank you, thank you, thank you! We are happy our unique little
offering tickled your tastebuds and made you come back time after time.
The sails will come down when we close for the Christmas break – our last night will be
Saturday, 21 December 2024.
Come up for your final gin tasting paddle or favourite rum cocktail before we reach the dock
– we’d love to see you.
Finally, we know Wellie hospo is doing it rough – but we are not done yet and neither are
many other exceptional operators and professionals in our special town. Yes, we are having a lull, but great food and drink is in our blood, and the blood of all those who have chosen to call this home.
Please don’t talk about your bad experiences or how expensive things are (we are well
aware). Instead, shout about the exceptional menu or outstanding service you received that
was worth every penny.
Support your favourite places as much as you can afford so they remain part of our landscape. And we will once again thrive.
