A Celebration of Craft Cocktails, Craft Beers & Local Wines Penny Black has breathed life back into the old Post and Telegraph office.

It is situated in the quaint historic precinct of Old Cromwell Town, on the banks of the Kawarau River. Penny Black offers signature cocktails, local craft beer, and wines, with delicious tapas-style food to enjoy All of us who work at Penny Black, love being part of this amazing space. Remembering years gone by, we kept to the Victorian era, honoring the first adhesive postage stamp, with a bend towards the Industrial Revolution, linking us to the new Dunstan Cycle Trail. You can find us at the start of the Dunstan Cycle Trail, or for a short stroll through the Old Precinct. All are welcome... cyclists, ladies in frocks, men in top and tails, families wanting to gather. Please note that we do not take bookings.

To put things in perspective…We made app 210 cocktails in 7 hours
This equates to making a cocktail every two minutes… non stop for tye 7 hours.
This excludes any b**r, w**e or other drinks
(Mr Noble does not need any gym sessions)

Some traditions are worth holding onto. ✨

In 1992, as the waters of Lake Dunstan began to rise and Cromwell prepared for a new chapter, the Cromwell Promotion Group brought the community together for a celebration known as the Plug-in Party.

There were fireworks. There was dancing in the rain. And there was a town coming together at a moment of extraordinary change.

More than three decades later, that spirit of community celebration is still very much alive.

This Sunday, we’re proud to bring you the Cromwell Street Party & Fireworks 2026.

An evening of music, entertainment, food, family and familiar faces, finishing with fireworks over the lake that helped shape our town’s history.

Behind the scenes are volunteers, local businesses, sponsors and supporters who help make these moments possible.

And at the heart of it all is our community. 💛

Don’t often have a whinge on here…
However, thanks to the “couple” who left, no tossed their picnic remains on the pathway.. (I can only imagine because I asked them if they could move, as the seats were for our customers.. )
The birds might have thanked you if your ignorant intentions were to leave them food … ( most people know bread is terrible for birds and ducks)
Man ….majority of people are lovely but the those few that just does your head in and makes you wonder and makes my Fiona emerge from the depths …
