Good Vibrations

Good Vibrations Good Vibrations Good Vibrations came about after the February 22nd earthquake when it became clear there were no venues in the city to host music events. Nicki

There was clearly a need and psychological benefit for people to get back into their 'normal' routines of spending time out with friends and listening to good live music. I decided to book the Canterbury Bowling Club and charge people $10 to come and listen to their favourite bands. Musicians played for free and the profits from the night were given to venues trying to rebuild. From the first gig

we donated $200 to the Wunderbar's reopening, the second gig we donated $200 to new venue The Archive. When we got to the third gig we realised that we were quickly running out of venues to donate money to and decided that in order to benefit the Christchurch music community directly, we'd pay the playing musicians the same as they'd get at a paying gig prior to the earthquake. Good Vibrations ran to support the city's music community for approximately 6 months until new music venues could establish themselves in post-quake Christchurch. Good Vibrations was run by myself and the Good Vibes gang - a group of old and new friends that shared the same vision.
