Every year, Nepal waits for Dashain and Tihar—the time when homes are cleaned, diyos are lit, families come together, roads become crowded with people returning home, and the country prepares to celebrate. Yet, for far too many Nepali families, these festive months have also become a time of fear, loss, displacement, and uncertainty. 😢🇳🇵 From 2021 to 2026, Nepal has repeatedly faced devastating disasters and national crises, leaving behind families who had barely recovered from one tragedy before another arrived. **2021 — Heavy rainfall, floods and landslides.** At least 77 people lost their lives, while many others were reported missing. Roads disappeared beneath water and debris, communities were isolated, and countless families were forced to face the destruction of homes and livelihoods. **2022 — Doti earthquake.** A powerful earthquake struck Doti, killing 6 people and damaging many homes. For the families affected, the earthquake brought fear and uncertainty at a time when Nepal was preparing for another festive season. **2023 — Jajarkot earthquake.** On November 3, a devastating earthquake struck western Nepal. More than 150 people lost their lives, hundreds were injured, and thousands of homes were damaged. Entire communities were left struggling to recover from the destruction. **2024 — Floods and landslides.** The devastating floods and landslides of September 27–28 claimed more than 200 lives and damaged thousands of homes. Roads, bridges, settlements, and essential infrastructure were severely affected, once again reminding us how vulnerable communities can be when extreme weather strikes. **2025 — The Gen-Z movement.** Nepal once again experienced a period of profound national unrest, with significant loss of life and property, many people killed and injured, and a political crisis following the movement. For families already carrying years of grief and uncertainty, another national crisis added yet another painful chapter.
