New milestone for the Lagos-Ibadan Railway! CCECC has been officially authorized by the Nigerian Railway Corporation to operate railway services for the public carriage of goods, becoming the first company licensed to operate standard-gauge rail freight in Nigeria. Since its launch on June 10, 2021, the Lagos-Ibadan Railway has made remarkable progress. In 2023, CCECC partnered with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to introduce cement and container freight services. As of October 2024, the railway has safely operated for over 1,400 days. The freight service marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s rail transport and promises to significantly boost the economy of Nigeria and the wider West African region!

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded three points, and three goals to Nigeria for the abandoned game against Libya.

The decision follows an investigation into the botched October 15 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Benghazi by the CAF Disciplinary Board.

Nigeria had walked away from the tie following poor treatment by the host country that left Super Eagles players and staff stranded at an abandoned airport for almost a day.

CAF in its ruling said it found the Libya Football Federation to have breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

The 5-point decision reads:

The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
The match No.87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).
The Libya Football Federation is ordered to pay a fine of USD 50,000.
The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.
All other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.
CAF president, Patrice Motsepe had earlier said that the continental body would not tolerate any lack of sportsmanship and unfair treatment in African football.

With the decision, Nigeria now has Ten (10) points from four games.

Exactly Today Idowu Philips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, was born. A veteran Nigerian actress, movie producer, director, and a certified nurse. Her acting career debuted in the 1990s.

Idowu Philips was born on 16 October 1942 at Ijebu Ode, a city in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. She attended African Methodist School and Anglican Modern School for primary and secondary education.
Her stage name "Iya Rainbow" stems from "Osumare" (meaning "rainbow" in British English), the name of the theatre group of Sir Hubert Ogunde, who died in 1990.
Idowu Philips worked as a healthcare assistant in general hospitals in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre.
Idowu ventured into full-time acting after the death of her husband - Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips (who worked closely with the late patriarch of the Nigerian Film Industry Sir Herbert Ogunde.
She has featured in several Nigerian films, including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi among others). The actress is 82 years old today. She is the daughter of Prophet Jacob Adebanjo Ifemade and Mrs Ifemade.
She has not publicly revealed anything about her childhood and siblings.

Iya Rainbow studied at Ijebu Ode Ogun State for primary and secondary education. After completing her high school education, she enrolled in a nursing course. Late, she graduated as a certified nurse and practiced nursing for 20 years. Idowu worked as a certified nurse in various general hospitals in Nigeria for 20 years.
She would occasionally act in the theatre while still a nurse. After the death of her husband, she quit nursing and ventured into full-time acting.
What was Iya Rainbow age when she quit nursing? She was 45 years when she decided to quit nursing and ventured fully into acting.

In 2017, Idowu traveled to Nigeria to feature in and guard a documentary shot by her son Femi Phillip.
The documentary was about Mose Orimolade, the founder of Cherubim and Seraphim.
Idowu has been awarded for her excellent talent.
She is a proud recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the City People Entertainment Awards.

Idowu was married to Augustine Ayanfemi Philips. Augustine worked closely with the late patriarch of the Nigerian Film Industry, Sir Hubert Ogunde.
The duo tied the knot in 1960 and stayed together until Augustine passed away in 1986.
The actress is blessed with five children. Among them are Sola Osborne and Femi Phillips who are in the film industry.
After her husband passed away, she chose not to remarry and opted to focus on taking care of her kids.

Naira-for-crude: Three refineries plan PMS production, Dangote awaits NNPC supply.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited may begin the supply of crude oil in naira to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery this week following the announcement by the Federal Government that the naira-for-crude deal has commenced.

Also, following the promise by the government, three more refineries are getting set to start the production of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, it was gathered on Sunday.

The three refineries include the 11,000 barrels per day capacity Aradel refinery in Rivers State; 20,000-capacity Clairgold refinery in Delta State; and 12,000-capacity Azikel in Bayelsa.

This came as officials at the $20bn Dangote refinery in Lagos and operators of other domestic refineries confirmed on Sunday that though the deal for crude supply in naira has commenced, the commodity is expected to hit the biggest refinery in Africa this week.

Nigerians To Process and Obtain Passports in Their Homes.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo says Nigerians will soon be able to apply for and receive passports from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need to visit passport offices. This new contactless passport processing system will be available only to Nigerians aged 18 and above seeking to renew expired passports, while first-time applicants will still need to appear in person to capture their biometrics.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo unveiled the new technology at a stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, explaining that it was developed to reduce the burden and delays often faced by Nigerians at home and abroad in obtaining passports. The initiative is being managed by two Nigerian firms — Irish Smart Technology and New World — who have been testing the system for the past nine months.

The minister also announced that beginning in April 2024, passport production will be centralized in Nigeria, with foreign immigration attachés no longer allowed to approve visa issuance. Additionally, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) will retain 50% of its internally generated revenue to streamline operations and reduce processing delays.

To enhance national security, 32 forward operational bases are currently being established across the country, according to the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mrs. Kemi Nandep. The new contactless system aims to eliminate middlemen, improve efficiency, and strengthen the security of the Nigerian passport in line with international standards.

Pogba Drug Ban Cut To 18 Months

French international footballer Paul Pogba said Friday his “nightmare is over” after a four-year ban for doping was reduced to 18 months. Pogba, under contract with Italian giants Juventus until 2026, will be able to return to competitive football from March 11 next year, four days before his 32nd birthday.
Pogba tested positive for testosterone in August 2023 after a match between Juventus and Udinese in Italy. He was provisionally suspended in September of the same year and then banned for four years by the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal the following February.

Pogba’s representatives said the testosterone came from a food supplement prescribed by a doctor he consulted in the United States. After announcing the ban, Pogba posted on his Instagram account that he had “never knowingly or deliberately” taken doping products.
