DJ IRWAN
He is known as one of Europe’s best eclectic deejays. Long before the term ‘eclectic’ even existed, Irwan Kartosen was already spinning a unique mix of house, hiphop and R&B Music. A career that originated at the legendary Amsterdam Club Roxy rapidly developed into a trendsetting endeavour at parties and festivals throughout the world. As a result of the increasing attention for Urban, deejay Irwan’s style is now more popular than ever: his gigs vary from residencies at leading club nights such as Treetz, Sneakerz and Ex P**n Star to festivals such as Dance Valley and Mystery Land. Add to that the countless performances abroad, and deejay Irwan is a name to reckon with.
After his time at the Roxy the true pioneers work kicked off: Deejay Irwan landed at the largest clubs and festivals of the Netherlands, e.g. Jimmy Woo, Club AIR, Escape, Off Corso, Club Noa, Sneakerz, Ex P**n Star, Nope is Dope, as well as (multiple) editions of major events such as Dance Valley, Mysteryland, FFWD Dance Parade, Pleasure Island, Innercity, Solar Festival, Madhouse XXL, Beatloverz, etc... The list is infinite, proving the simple fact that deejay Irwan’s position at the top of the Dutch clubbing scene is nothing but justified.
In recent years Irwan focussed not only on his deejaying but on his ambition for studio work as well. As a result of this, he can play his own edits of well-known records and produce increasingly successful new tracks, often mixed with his own vocals. Multitalented Irwan is able to use his strong voice more and more in the studio, and during live performances!
The result is a unique deejay-set. Irwan knows how to combine his utterly fast mixes with scratches, vocals and the craziest effects. In 2005 he was able to bring this unique style of spinning together in an official mix- album for one of MTV’s most popular programs Pimp My Ride. In 2008 he made a mix-album for the well- known Bubbling Beats-series. In 2009 this was followed by another mix album for Treetz, Holland’s number one eclectic party where Irwan was the main resident-dj.
Therefore we can safely conclude that deejay Irwan is one of the greatest deejays of the Netherlands. Already having been nominated for multiple MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards and a Dutch Urban Award in the category Best Urban DJ, today this popular guy can be found at almost every international urban-event. His talent for both producing and singing are very promising signs for the future.
MC PHATT
Phatt grew up in the Netherlands. He started singing in a choir when he was six years old. He was inspired by his cousin, who was a pop star in Portugal. Phatt’s mother is from Portugal, and his father is from Surinam, in South America.
When he was a teenager, Phatt went to a high school that specializes in Music and Dance and he studied Singing at the conservatory of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Since 2010 he is also a teacher at the Amsterdam and Rotterdam Conservatory.[4]
When Phatt was 16 years old, he made his first steps into the music industry. He started as a background vocalist to various chart topping Dutch artists.[5] Phatt has performed with saxophone player Candy Dulfer and American pop icon Chaka Khan. He still shares the stage with Candy Dulfer on her worldwide tour; he is now a 'special guest'.
From 2005 to 2010 Phatt was a member of the RMXCRW. Their first release was a remix of Kevin Lyttle’s ‘Turn Me On’. The three members of the formation each brought their own musical style: rap, dancehall and soul / R&B. As the singer of the RMXCRW, Phatt has shared the stage with Dru Hill, 112 and Jodeci. The group had hits in the Dutch charts and toured around the world, with performances across Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. In 2010 the group split up with a farewell concert, also in the Caribbean.[6]
Phatt is currently working on various projects as a solo artist. He still lives in the Netherlands. Phatt recorded the dance track ‘Looking for Love’, which reached number 3 in the Portuguese iTunes download charts and was in the Portugal Singles Top 50.[7]
Phatt recently recorded the song ‘Dancing’ for the soundtrack of the dance film Body Language.[8] This track is released in Portugal on January 14, 2012. Phatt will release his EP EP in the spring of 2012. Phatt was the opening act for R&B artists Ciara, Joe, Akon and Ne-Yo. He also writes and produces songs for Dutch artists and is a leading vocalist in the Dutch hiphop scene.
Phatt is also expanding his career towards the USA. He has worked with Omega, a singer from Atlanta, on an official remix of the song ‘Make Love to this Music’ by American rapper Rick Ross.
