The Mai Tai is one of the world's most famous rum cocktails and a true icon of Tiki culture. It was created in 1944 by Victor J. Bergeron, better known as Trader Vic, at his restaurant in Oakland, California

How It Became Famous

Trader Vic introduced the Mai Tai to Hawaii in the 1950s, where it became hugely popular with tourists. Hawaiian bartenders later added pineapple juice, orange juice, and dark rum floats, creating the sweeter version many people know today
