Sunday’s pool tournament came to an incredible conclusion, with two fantastic semi-finals followed by an unforgettable final between two of the tournament’s best players.
The first semi-final saw Panjo take on Shane McGree 5–4 victory to Shane. It was an outstanding game of pool and a fitting contest for a place in the final.
The second semi-final saw Lar Ryan take on Woody, with another great game taking place. Lar produced a brilliant performance to secure his place in the final with a 5–0 win.
During the break, the live auction and raffle took place, with the main attraction being a pool shirt designed and kindly donated by the late Martin Rafter. The shirt went for an incredible €2,500. All proceeds from both the raffle and auction are being donated to The Irish Kidney Association, a charity chosen by the Darcy family in memory of Steven.
Before the final got underway, a minute’s silence was held in memory of Steven Darcy and Martin Rafter, giving everyone a chance to reflect on two people who meant so much to so many. The final was set: Lar Ryan vs Shane McGree — the final two players standing from a starting field of 54.
Anne Darcy was on hand to present Shane and Lar with their runner-up and winner’s prizes.
Sunday was about much more than just pool. It was about friendship, family, community and remembering two people who will never be forgotten.
Steven will always be remembered by all of us as a great friend, a great character, loyal and hard-working. He is missed dearly every single day.
It’s safe to say, Steven and Murty were looking down, probably with a pint of Carling, a bottle of Miller and a shot of Fireball, enjoying the show and seeing just how much both of them are missed and how highly regarded they remain by everyone who knew them.
A huge congratulations to Lar Ryan on a fantastic tournament, commiserations to Shane McGree after an excellent run, and a massive thank you to everyone who played, supported, donated and helped make yesterday such a special occasion.
