We are back!! A brief hiatus for the Tiki And The Brain team but we are back with amazing tropical cocktails and rum fun for you to feast your eye holes on!
Of course today has been carefully chosen as the day we climb out of our hibernation stations because it has to be one of our favourite days of the year .
So to kick off the day that was clearly created by pirates trying to legitimise being drunk by noon we would like to introduce you to one of our favourite super versatile super affordable rums. Plantation Stiggins' Fancy Pineapple.
Fun facts: Named after Reverend Stiggins from Charles Dickens' the Pickwick Papers, a character whose favourite drink was Pineapple rum. Also the legendary cocktail historian David Wondrich was involved in creating this masterpiece!
How's it made: It actually starts as Plantation 3 star rum and Plantation original dark. The Plantation 3 star is infused (macerated) with pineapple barks for a week and then distilled again, the Original dark is infused with pineapple fruit for 3 months, then they're blended together and refined to a pretty incredible result. It's a blend of a variety of column and pot still methods.
Where's it from: Barbados, Trinidad & Jamaica.
What does it taste like: Don't expect to be smashed in the face with pineapple but there are certainly ripe fruits there, it's smooth, smoky and almost a little spicy at times but it finishes off with a lovely buttery layer of banana and vanilla. On the nose it's even more spicy and you can certa in not pick out the smoke and the Jamaican rums.
How to use it: Drink it straight or use it to build classic dark rum cocktails or just simple serves like Cuba libres, it's versitle and always delicious. Essentially what we are saying here is, doesn't really matter how you use it, it's always good!
