This week in South Italy marks a first victory after years of pain, silence, and an unimaginable fight for Elisabetta Passafaro.
To everyone who watched from the shadows without ever finding the courage to speak. To those who refused to believe her. To those who chose to stand by her abuser instead of standing by a child. To those who wanted to label her as mentally ill simply because she dared to tell the truth. To those who turned their backs, ignored her for years, and pretended she did not exist.
This week, justice has spoken.
The Public Prosecutor and the Court have recognized what Elisabetta has been saying all along: she is a victim of her father.
You may still choose not to believe her. That is your choice. But you can no longer claim that the truth was never there.
Many people helped destroy part of her life. They tried to silence her, isolate her, and break her.
They failed.
Elisabetta is still standing. Stronger than anyone who abandoned her ever imagined. Her courage has outlasted their silence, and her truth has outlived their lies.
I could not be prouder of you. This is only the first victory, but it is already a victory for every survivor who refuses to be silenced.
