Plantation Rum is a brand known for its unique approach to rum production and blending. Founded by Alexandre Gabriel as an offshoot of Maison Ferrand, a Cognac house, Plantation sources rums from various Caribbean islands and distilleries.
Production Process
Plantation's rum-making process involves several key steps:
1. Sourcing: Rums are selected from different Caribbean islands, including Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad.
2. Distillation: Various methods are used, including pot stills and column stills, depending on the rum's origin.
3. Tropical Aging: Initial aging occurs in the Caribbean, where the climate accelerates maturation.
4. Continental Aging: Rums are transported to France for finishing in Cognac casks at Maison Ferrand.
5. Blending: Master blenders combine different rums to create unique flavor profiles.
6. Dosage: A process borrowed from Cognac production, where a mixture of toasted sugar and rum is added as a flavor enhancer.
