The photo above was taken by an unknown photographer in 1871, a mere 30 years after the world’s first photographs began emerging. The artist captured a massive, precarious float (known as dashi) parading through the streets of Hakata, in Southern Japan. Much of the specifics remain unknown, but my best guess would be that it was part of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a 700-year old festival that takes place in early July.

Dashi (written 山車, the characters for mountain and car) have been around for hundreds of years and play a central role in Shinto festivals that celebrate the gods. It was thought that Shinto gods originally descended onto mountainous peaks, hence height and overall resemblance to mountains. It was also customary for the floats to be heavily decorated with mountain imagery.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the Sun "smiling." Seen in ultraviolet light, these dark patches on the Sun are known as coronal holes and are regions where fast solar wind gushes out into space

Nasa’s photo has prompted a slew of responses online, with many comparing the image to a Halloween pumpkin, a lion and the sun featured in the children’s show Teletubbies.

By saying that their eyesight has become weak (Kishimoto) from quoting them, he gave the characters the best eyesight and Byakugan, which is the ability to see from thousands of kilometers and see behind things.

The former Kamioka Railway in Prefecture, which is 60% tunnels and bridges, ceased operation in 2004, but the desire to preserve and utilize the railroad assets in their original form led to the birth of rail mountain bike "Gattan Go!!" It is a new kind of ride involving two mountain bikes fixed to a metal frame with guide rollers manufactured locally in Kamioka, which riders use to ride along the tracks while enjoying the vibrations and sounds coming from the rails. The new local attraction is creating a buzz and contributing to the revitalization of the community.
