💛 The heart of Daffodils Dreams: what your support makes possible 💛
People often see our boutique and think they know what Daffodils Dreams does. But so much of our work happens beyond the shop floor.
One day we might be preparing clothes and bedding for a mum and her children who have fled domestic abuse. The next, we could be helping a care leaver set up their first home, finding smart clothes for someone starting a job, or helping a young person choose an outfit for prom so they can enjoy that special night with their friends.
We also know how difficult birthdays and Christmas can be when parents simply don’t have the money. That’s why we provide birthday presents, Christmas Eve boxes and sacks of toys, as well as Easter eggs and gifts. Every child deserves to feel remembered and celebrated.
Our Community Lounge offers a warm welcome, free refreshments, friendship and company. We organise special sessions each month so people can enjoy themselves, try something new and spend time with others. We also help children access activities and offer work placements where young people who need extra support can build confidence and feel part of a team.
Our volunteers are at the heart of it all. They give us so much of their time, but they often tell us how much volunteering gives back to them, too. Some have shared that before joining us, they didn’t feel they had much going on in their lives. Now they’ve made friendships, feel part of the DD family and tell us their mental health has improved. They love giving back, and hearing what being part of DD means to them is truly humbling.
We work alongside other organisations to reach people who need support, and we share what we’ve learned with organisations just starting out in the voluntary sector. We organise our own fundraisers and run free giveaways and initiatives in the boutique, too.
So why do people choose to support Daffodils Dreams?
I think it’s because they can see what their kindness makes possible. A donated coat keeps someone warm. A fundraiser helps us prepare the next referral. A sponsor helps us keep our work going. A volunteer gives their time and may find friendship and purpose here themselves.
Behind every referral, every gift and every visit to the lounge is a real person. We may not always be able to share their story, but we never forget who we’re doing this for.
